We are so grateful. 🌳

Echoes of the Forest has received a $10,000 grant from the Biltmore Championship Asheville’s inaugural Community Grant Program!

The grant will fund two artistic entrance archways for Gateway Park, RiverLink’s new bike and pedestrian park along Riverside Drive. Mark Oliver and Jacqueline Oliver of Foundation Woodworks are building them from Helene salvaged wood, concrete, and steel. Every cyclist, runner, and walker who passes through will be welcomed by timber the storm brought down, given new purpose by local hands.

Thank you to the Biltmore Championship Asheville, the PGA Championship TOUR, and Explore Asheville - Buncombe County Travel & Hospitality Industry for investing in our community in the tournament’s very first year. Congratulations to our friends at RiverLink, a fellow recipient. And thank you to everyone who has supported our artisans along the way. 💚

Find us at the market this Saturday! 🌳

We're back at the North Asheville Tailgate Market this Saturday! Stop by our table for small handcrafted pieces made by local woodworkers from Helene salvaged wood, and hear about the trail of installations growing across Western North Carolina.

It's a great chance to get a head start on holiday shopping, and every purchase directly supports our artisans and the communities still recovering.

Two days left to guess the birdies. ⛳

The Biltmore Championship tees off Thursday at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, and 132 PGA TOUR golfers will be chasing birdies over four days. How many will they make? That is your number to guess.

Here is how it works: make a $20 contribution to Echoes of the Forest, submit your birdie guess, and the closest guess without going over wins The Ultimate Biltmore Experience from the Biltmore Estate. Echoes keeps 100% of your contribution, and every dollar raised grows our share of the tournament's $50,000 bonus pool.

Your gift supports exactly what you have watched us build: Hurricane Helene salvaged timber becoming public art by local Appalachian artisans, from the YMI bench downtown to the Carved Critter Walk at the Cradle of Forestry.

Guesses are due by 5 PM ET on Wednesday, September 16. Donate and guess here: https://p2p.onecause.com/biltmorebfc/charity/echoes-of-the-forest

Every guess is a birdie for the cause. 🌳

Photographs only tell half the story. 🌳

The grain of storm-salvaged walnut. The weight of a hand-turned bowl. The finish on a live-edge table. Some things you just have to see up close.

Our Asheville studio is open by appointment as a gallery, featuring a rotating collection of pieces by our Appalachian woodworkers: hand-turned bowls, carved spoons and boards, chainsaw carvings, and furniture crafted from Hurricane Helene-salvaged timber. Every piece is available to view and take home, and every purchase directly supports our artisans and the communities still recovering.

Visits are by appointment, so you'll have the space to yourself and time to hear the story behind each piece.

Book your visit: call (828) 273-3096 or email [email protected]

What a day at TimberFest! 🌲

This morning at the Cradle of Forestry, we cut the ribbon on six new trail critters — a black bear, hellbender, brook trout, Carolina northern flying squirrel, barred owl, and white-tailed fawn — all carved by Mike Ayers of Whetstone Woodworks from trees brought down by Hurricane Helene. They’ll live along the Forest Discovery Trail as a reminder of what was lost and how this region rebuilds.

Three of our artisans — sculptor Mickey Strivelli and woodturners Jim Miller and Annie Ogg — spent the day doing live demonstrations, and the crowd stayed all afternoon.

Thank you to FIND Outdoors and the Cradle of Forestry for partnering with us, and to the Transylvania County Tourism Development Authority for making the project possible.

Public art from Helene’s fallen trees, for everyone to enjoy and learn from. That’s the whole mission.
