The Steady Collective

The Steady Collective The Steady Collective is a non-judgmental, harm reduction based organization that serves people who use drugs. We support any positive change.

The Steady Collective is a Harm Reduction organization and mobile syringe services program dedicated to promoting the well-being of people who use drugs in Asheville, North Carolina through empowerment, respectful collaboration and non-judgmental support. Our primary goal is to enhance community health by reducing rates of drug overdose, injection related injury, and infectious disease through edu

cation, advocacy, and evidence-based direct services. Through our mobile syringe services initiative, we bring these resources directly to where they are most needed. We believe deeply that it is essential for drug users to be the leaders of the Harm Reduction movement. People who use drugs ultimately determine the nature of the services and support offered by The Steady Collective. We work to prioritize the voices of current and former drug users in every aspect of our work with current and former drug users on our staff and board of directors. Additionally, in our paid Participant Advisory Committee meetings we facilitate discussions with current participants in our syringe exchange program to learn how we can best tailor our programs to fit the current needs of the community. At the center of everything we do is an unwavering belief in the dignity of all drug users and their right to the resources which keep them safe.

Overdose Awareness day is coming up. While fighting to continue providing life-saving, evidence-based, overdose prevention services, we've had limited capacity for event planning. So tonight we were happy to show up at Haywood Famous's Unspoken Word Poetry event in honor of OAD ♥️ but the truth is...
Systems are failing people. People who claim to care about people who use drugs will still say "but I don't wanna see it" or "but I don't feel safe with those people around me." We have given multiple overdose reversal talks at local large scale events... and while I believe the leadership of those events that invited me to be there had the best intentions, it shed light on how much work there is to do. As a Community, the only way we can truly support everyone, is to give them a seat at the table! Not a token seat for inclusivity, but a real seat with real respect. It's not peoples drug of choice that defines their class in society! It's their financial standing! Don't be fooled, people of all financial standings experience op**te used disorder, but you're only afraid of the ones living on the street. The behaviors you fear are not a result of op**te use disorder, but a result of capitalism. The enemy is not the person who uses drugs, the enemy is the small percentage of people who control the power dynamic in our country. If you want to be effective and efficient, direct your rage in the right direction. Love thy neighbor, especially the one without a home 🫶🏼
