Our Story
¡Vamos! (pronounced “vah-mos”) which means “Let's go!” in Spanish, is a pre-college outreach program for Latinx high school students in the Asheville City and Buncombe County school systems. Our mission is to provide tools for Latinx students to graduate from high school and achieve their goals of higher education.
The ¡Vamos! Program aims to provide students and their families with the resources, knowledge, and skills to support them in their education. This includes, but is not limited to, weekly tutoring sessions, family engagement nights, open communication with school teachers and staff, and much more. We also provide one-on-one guidance and support to students who are struggling academically, as well as those who are going through the college application process.
This program consists of high school students in 9-12th grade at Clyde A. Erwin High School and Asheville High School/SILSA. Our hope is that once accepted into the Vamos! Program as a freshman, these students will continue to be a part of the program throughout their high school career.
We are proud to work with many community partners whose missions, like ours, reflect a commitment to serve the unique needs of Latinx youth and their families.
