We are designed for the Development & Education for youth & young males transitioning into Manhood. ““My Daddy Taught Me That”” is a program designed for the Development, Uplift, and Education for youth and young males transitioning into MANHOOD. This will be done through educational group sessions and discussions, hands-on activities and programs, and the introduction to innovative and unique eve

nts. This program will play the vital role in transforming young males into our leading MEN of tomorrow. “My Daddy Taught Me That” was created so that every young male would have the opportunity to experience and know firsthand what being a positive male feels like, and to know what productive men do in our society. The inspiration behind this program is Bennie Lake, who worked for thirty years in the Juvenile system dedicating his life to the development of youth and young adults. His son, Keynon Lake, founded “My Daddy Taught Me That” as he wanted every youth and young male to have the experience of knowing what real Men do; how they lead by example, how they take care of their families and become community leaders. Supported by the book MY DADDY TAUGHT ME THAT, the dream is that every youth and young male can become positive, productive men in the community while knowing from example what it means to be a MAN.

“(The numbers) should surprise me, but they don’t,” said Keynon Lake, founder of My Daddy Taught Me That, a local, Black-led nonprofit that supports young men through advocacy, education and mentoring.

Lake asserted that if a child is participating in criminal behavior, there should be consequences for their actions. But he also highlighted the dire effects that accumulating a record for more minor behaviors while in school can have on youths, such as their ability to get into colleges and universities.

"Are we going to throw away the key because a kid got smart with a teacher or disobeyed the rules? We’ve got to understand the differences and dynamics, and also what we're sacrificing."
