Dear Dickson Families--

Please see the following request for volunteers from Asheville City Schools.

The School Nutrition Department is in need of volunteers to support food distributions on Fridays during the summer. We need volunteers who have completed/cleared the background check and have attended the volunteer training.

On Fridays, students receive six meals for the weekend. It can be difficult for students to carry all of these meals home if a parent, relative, or caregiver does not come with them. We need volunteers who can help our children carry meals home if needed. On Thursdays, additional help is needed in the cafeteria to help package these meals to send out on Fridays.

Our hope is that you will be able to share this information with your parent teams. Volunteers can sign-up at the following link,

and we are requesting help for as early as this Friday. We ask that volunteers bring their own mask. If they do not have a mask, one will be provided for them along with gloves. If someone is not able to volunteer during the time they signed up for, we ask that they contact us 24 hours before the meal distribution and or packaging so that we can find additional support. If a volunteer is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, they do not need to come to the volunteer location.

Tomorrow, May 4th is the start of National Teacher Appreciation Week. In light of the events of the last six weeks, we are more appreciative than ever for the dedication, care, and hard-work of our teachers. Since we cannot be together in this time to show our appreciation directly, the PTO page (Isaac Dickson Parents and Families) would like to share this special video of thanks for our teachers. We would like to encourage families to add any videos/words of love and gratitude throughout the week to the comments below the video link, that way our teachers can feel the love remotely this year. As well, written notes for specific teachers can be sent to the central office @ 85 Mountain St, Asheville, NC 28801. The notes will be collected there and will be distributed at the end of the week. Lots of race packets picked up at the French Broad Chocolate Lounge yesterday afternoon, but if you missed it there is another fun packet pickup and/or onsite registration tonight at Catawba Brewing Company - South Slope from 4:00-6:30pm. Come and try the Hot Chocolate Brown Ale while you're there! $1 for each Ale sold goes to the IDES PTO to support our field trips and other experiential learning opportunities...
