With permission from the family, we want to share a pinning ceremony Four Seasons recently held for Veteran patient, Joseph Freddie Barnard. Joseph served in United States Army Intelligence during the Vietnam Era.

Military Officers of America Association (MOAA) officer, Captain John Knapp, U.S. Navy (Ret.), conducted the pinning. Surrounded by family and the family's beloved chihuahua, our Music Therapists played the 82nd Airborne singing the Army Song. Joseph and John enjoyed sharing stories of where they served and ribbing one another for being in "rival" service branches. Joseph's daughter, Dawn, said this was the most awake and engaged her dad had been in more than a week.

Four Seasons is honored to care for our Veterans and recognize them for their sacrifice of service to our country. If a Veteran in your care is in need of end-of-life care, request care from Four Seasons today at 866.466.9734 or online at https://fourseasonscare.org/request-care/

MOAA National has released its position on the Take Care of America's Veterans Act (TCAVA). As many of you know, respected veterans service organizations have reached different conclusions on this legislation.

We encourage our members to become informed by reading the legislation and the positions of the various veterans organizations, then share your views with your elected representatives. Regardless of where you stand, informed participation is one of the most important ways we can continue to advocate for veterans, service members, their families, and survivors.

The 3rd Annual WNC-MOAA Picnic is in the books, and what a tremendous success it was!

On a beautiful Friday afternoon at Mills River Park, more than 70 members, guests, and prospective members came together for a day filled with friendship, laughter, great food, and camaraderie. The weather could not have been better, and the fellowship was even better.

We were honored to begin the event with the Presentation of the Colors by the outstanding Air Force JROTC Color Guard from TC Roberson High School. Their professionalism and dedication set the perfect tone for the day.

This year also marked a new milestone for WNC-MOAA as we held our very first Silent Auction. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters, the auction was a tremendous success and generated excitement throughout the day.

Combined with our raffle baskets and door prizes, attendees had opportunities to take home some fantastic items while supporting the chapter's mission.

One of the highlights of this year's picnic was the overwhelming support we received from our sponsors and donors. More than 44 businesses, organizations, and individual supporters contributed items, gift certificates, experiences, and services. While many were local Western North Carolina businesses, support also came from friends and organizations as far away as Wisconsin and Loretto, Kentucky. Their generosity helped make this event one of our most successful yet.

Events like this are only possible because of the dedication of our volunteers, the generosity of our sponsors and donors, and the enthusiasm of our members and guests. Together, we are building a stronger military and veteran community across Western North Carolina.

A special welcome to the new members who joined us and to those who attended to learn more about WNC-MOAA. We hope you experienced firsthand what makes our chapter special: fellowship, service, advocacy, and a commitment to supporting one another.

Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, sponsored, bid in the Silent Auction, purchased raffle tickets, and helped make the 3rd Annual WNC-MOAA Picnic such a memorable event.

We are already looking forward to next year!
