Today, we honor Indigenous Peoples’ Day! ✊🏾🌎

They call it Columbus Day, but Columbus didn't discover America. You cannot discover land where people already existed, with rich cultures, histories, and communities.

Our liberation is tied to one another. We cannot talk about collective liberation without acknowledging the struggles of Indigenous peoples and the systems of oppression that connect our histories.

📣 The City of Asheville's Juneteenth 2027 RFP is OPEN!

This is an opportunity for our local Black-led nonprofits, organizations, creatives, organizers, and legacy neighborhood associations to help shape a Juneteenth celebration that reflects Asheville’s Black community, history, culture, and future.

🖤 Black Love is about more than romantic love. It’s about loving our families, our friends, our neighbors, our culture, and our COMMUNITY. This is a chance for us to come together, celebrate one another, have a good time, and support work that makes a difference.

Meet Ka’Leila, our Community School Coordinator at Asheville Middle School!

Community Schools are about supporting the whole school community—and Ka’Leila has taken that to heart. In her second year at Asheville Middle, she created a staff wellness lounge: a comfortable place where teachers and staff can take a breath, recharge and return to the work of supporting students.

And there’s plenty happening beyond the classroom at AMS. Last year, 780 students participated in partnership-based programming connected through eight community partners. That’s what Youth Opportunity looks like in action: more people, programs and possibilities surrounding students as they grow.

Help us give Ka’Leila a well-deserved shoutout this week! 👏
