MusicWorks knows firsthand the power of music in schools to transform young lives and improve outcomes for kids who need it the most. We fill gaps in students’ education— gaps that are, in part, caused by the lack of investment in arts education. We were deeply disappointed to learn that the Asheville City School Board is recommending that the Asheville Middle School orchestra program be cut. The arts are not simply an extracurricular, they are essential to a well-rounded education, and serve as a safe space for students who often have nowhere else to go.
If you value the arts in our community, please email the Asheville City School board before their meeting tonight, August 10th, at 5 PM. Their emails are below. A short email could make the difference for the next generation of young musicians.
