It's A Movement Folks
MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER
Growing up, basketball was my dream.
Like a lot of young Black boys, I believed ball was my way out. I lived it. Breathed it. Ate, slept, and dreamed about making it to the league. I wanted the bright lights, the packed arenas, the competition… I wanted the NBA.
I never saw myself working in the community.Never saw myself leading programs.Never saw myself mentoring young men, speaking life into families, or fighting for children who felt forgotten.
Even when I worked at Buncombe County Social Services, I still believed my purpose was somewhere else.
But sometimes God will take your plans and redirect your purpose.
I thought I was training for the NBA…whole time, God was preparing me for a different league.
See, I still made the league.Just not the one I expected.
Now my court is the community.
Instead of scoring points for a crowd, I score opportunities for children.I score hope for families.I score mentorship for young men growing up without guidance.I score resources for people who feel unseen and unheard.
And yeah… I still play defense too.Now anybody that really KNOW me knows offense was always more my thing 😂
But these days, my defense looks different.
I defend our youth when they feel abandoned.I defend women and families when life gets heavy.I defend fathers trying to break generational curses.I defend the people this world too often gives up on.
So no… I may not have made it to the NBA.
But every time I see a child smile again…Every time I watch a young man choose growth over violence…Every time I see a family realize they are not alone…
That’s a win to me.
A lot of us spend our lives chasing one dream, not realizing God may have called us to something even bigger.
And I’m thankful He didn’t give up on me when I couldn’t yet see the vision.
This work ain’t easy.If you really love your community, this work will break your heart sometimes.
But these children…These families…This city…
They gave me something worth fighting for.
And as long as I got breath in my body…I’m still on the court.
