Take a survey to help prioritize which transportation projects in our region get funded to move forward!
https://www.publicinput.com/prioritization

The Strategic Prioritization of Transportation, or SPOT, process is North Carolina’s method for evaluating and selecting transportation projects for potential state and federal funding. The French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization, local governments, NCDOT, and transportation agencies have submitted projects for consideration, including roadway, bicycle and pedestrian, transit, and rail improvements.

The survey is designed to help the MPO better understand which proposed projects have strong support, significant concern, or mixed opinions from people across the region. Participants will be able to review proposed transportation projects and provide feedback using a simple rating scale.

Participants do not need to provide input on every project. The survey is set up so people can scan through the list and respond to the projects they care most about, whether they strongly support a project, have concerns about it, or simply want to share a neutral perspective.

Public feedback will be considered as the MPO develops recommendations for allocating its limited local input points. These points are one of the tools available to the MPO and its member jurisdictions to help influence how projects are scored and ranked for funding consideration.

Survey results will be reviewed by MPO staff, committees, and member jurisdictions as recommendations are developed later in the SPOT 8.0 process.

The French Broad River Metropolitan Planning Organization is updating its Locally Coordinated Plan (LCP)—and we need your input.

This plan helps guide how transportation services work together across our region, especially for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and those with limited access to transportation.

Your feedback will help identify gaps, improve coordination, and shape future transit and mobility options.

Mark your calendar. One month from now is the Lennie Antonelli and Jake Hill Memorial Ride. Join your fellow cyclists on Wednesday, July 1st at 6pm at On Your Bike in Marshall (133 S. Main St, Marshall, NC) for a ride to honor the lives of Lennie Antonelli and Jake Hill on the one-year anniversary of their passing.

This memorial ride is an opportunity for friends, family, and the broader cycling community to come together in remembrance. Lennie and Jake were deeply valued members of the riding community, and this event is intended to reflect the spirit of connection, respect, and shared purpose that they embodied.

The ride will begin at 6:00 PM in downtown Marshall and follow an approximately 11-mile out-and-back route along NC-251, traveling to the site of the crash before returning to town. The pace will be casual and conversational, with the group staying together throughout. This is not a race—there will be no timing, no results, and no pressure—only a shared ride in remembrance.

On May 18, the Asheville City Government released a Draft Network Report outlining potential future changes to the Asheville Rides Transit (ART) bus network. The report was developed by City Staff and consultant Jarret Walker and Associates with input from previous rounds of public engagement. 🚌

All transit agencies have to balance competing goals – high ridership or coverage of more areas. With limited resources, cities have to make smart, informed trade-offs. The City’s population and land use is constantly changing, and it’s important that the services residents use evolve and develop to align community needs with resources.

The Asheville City Government is working to update its current traffic calming policy and implementation process.

TONIGHT, May 28: Come out to the Dr. Wesley Grant, Sr. Southside Community Center for a drop-in, open house-style meeting from 4pm-7pm to learn more about the process and share your experiences and suggestions.

Traffic calming measures work to slow down drivers and increase safety and comfort for all roadway users. The City’s current policy for addressing requests and implementing traffic calming on City-owned streets has become increasingly resource-intensive, often leading to long project timelines and unmet community expectations. The City is working to create a more efficient, transparent, and responsive process, and they want to hear from you!
