Burning forests for energy is not a climate solution.

Neither are other forms of bioenergy that harm communities, forests, animals, & land.

During Climate Week NYC, Dogwood Alliance, Earthjustice, NRDC, & the SELC are coming together for “Bio-Energy or Bio-Scam: A Course Correction for Climate and Communities.”

The panel will examine wood biomass, crop-based biofuels, & manure biogas, the harms these industries create, & how advocates can work across movements to challenge these false climate solutions more effectively.

What happens when community members, nonprofit partners, & elected officials come together to confront the impacts of the wood pellet industry?

In July, we gathered for the NC Wood Pellet Town Hall Meeting to share experiences, build connections, & call for action.

The day included a screening of Money Doesn’t Grow on Trees, a wood pellet industry van tour for legislators, & conversations led by Anita Cunningham of the NC Climate Solutions Coalition & Sherri White-Williamson of EJCAN.

Community members spoke about how the wood pellet industry affects their health, neighborhoods, & forests. Their message to decision-makers was clear: Listen to impacted communities and take action.

Why did that tree just explode? 🌳 Is there really a “mother tree” like in Avatar? What happens to a forest after it burns? And why does California experience so many wildfires?

Forest conservation scientist Dominick DellaSala answers these questions and more in this WIRED video, breaking down the science of forests, wildfire, & how these ecosystems respond to change.

For years, communities have raised serious concerns about Enviva. Now, a new lawsuit is raising questions about how the company was run from the inside.

The lawsuit alleges that former Enviva executives committed the company to more than $650 million in wood pellet purchases without telling the board, in an effort to hit earnings targets tied to executive bonuses.

Communities across the South have been demanding accountability for years. These allegations give us another reason to keep pushing for a future that puts people & forests before corporate greed.

North Carolina communities are speaking up about the impacts of the wood pellet industry.

At the Clinton, NC Wood Pellet Town Hall, impacted community members, nonprofit partners, elected officials, & staff from the Governor’s office came together to address the public health, economic, & forest impacts of wood pellet production across our state.

The message was clear: decisions about North Carolina’s future must center the people & communities living with these impacts every day.

Together, we can protect our forests, strengthen our communities, & push for real solutions that put people & the planet first. 🌳

No, this is not a Pokémon character. It’s a Venezuelan Poodle Moth! 👀

Nature is full of creatures that can surprise us. Moths & butterflies are more than beautiful & bizarre. They are pollinators & important pieces of healthy ecosystems.

So, how can you tell a moth from a butterfly? What makes each one special?

Take a look at these winged wonders in our blog, “Is It a Moth or a Butterfly?”

Wetlands protect our drinking water, reduce flooding, support wildlife, & strengthen communities. But federal protections for these vital ecosystems are being rolled back.

As federal safeguards disappear, states have an even bigger role to play. We need state leaders to protect wetlands from pollution & destruction, not give polluting industries a free pass.

Tell your state legislators to defend wetlands and the communities that depend on them. https://dogwoodalliance.org/actions/defend-state-wetlands/?sourceid=1124682&ms=Facebook
