At Firefly, we love our elders! The Ancestor Fire is a place to drop in with these wise beings who hold the type of experience that only living a long life can bring. Sarah Haggerty is our dedicated keeper of this space, holding rituals and offerings throughout the event, while tending the fire and our Elders. Danu is also an Elder Tender, offering mobility assistance, filling water and getting folks to and from their classes and lodgings with ease.

It is through these intergenerational relations that we gain real resilience, for it is said you can know a people by how they treat the most vulnerable amongst them: their children & their elders. From July 7 - 12th, in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, on the ancestral land of the Cherokee, nestles The Annual Firefly Gathering. This will be our third and final summer perched here on the banks of the beautiful Toe River, with hundreds of people coming together for a community camp-out and celebration, focused on traditional skills and ancient wisdom passed down from the ancestors.

We build community and commune during Morning Circle and Golden Hour. We take classes or wander during the day, remembering traditional practices rooted in time. Each evening, we listen to local music and stories celebrating Appalachian culture.

We dance to the beat of the drums and sing under the full moon in gratitude and reconnection to divine Earth. We barter and buy goods from local artisans and instructors. At Youth Village, we let kids be kids, inspiring their curiosity and teaching them earthskills and nature play. It’s a gathering built on daily mutual aid practices, offering affinity spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community, People of the Global Majority, Women, Men, families, singles, friends…a place for everybody to craft, create, connect, discuss and relax with one another.
