Hello Polk County Relayers!
I wanted to introduce myself to you as the Relay for Life 2017 staff partner for Henderson, Rutherford, McDowell and Buncombe counties! I have been an employee of the American Cancer Society for a collective 5 years now. I began with ACS 17 years ago in Mission delivery. Helping start patient programs through volunteer initiatives was very rewarding for me, and I still have a passion for this area of our organization as well as Relay for Life. I have 2 year experience as a staff partner for Relay events. I hold a Master's Degree in Biomedical Ethics and Advocacy from the University of South Carolina. My 15 year old twins and I live in the mountains of beautiful Henderson county. Like many of you, I have been touched by cancer in many ways... my mother is a 4 time cancer survivor and my biggest reason to Relay!
I know that times of transition are common in our organization and that change can be overwhelming. But I also believe that change can be good and sometimes very necessary. Despite the fact that Polk county will no longer have it's own Relay for Life event, I have every confidence in your county and your passion for helping us in our fight against cancer! Amanda Morrow has caught me up to speed on your community and I am very excited to support you in a new Relay season. She tells me that you are an extremely motivated and dynamic group! We want to make you feel welcomed to join our event in Henderson County. We will have our first meeting of the season on Sept. 29 at Pardee hospital at 6:00 pm in the videoconference room.We hope that you will come! There will be snacks and prizes... all are welcome.
We love our ACS volunteers… we can’t do our life saving work without YOU. I want to encourage you to continue to Relay!!!
You can always contact me through my direct email or call me/text me at 803-448-1374. Again, I am excited about the opportunity to work with each of you to grow and strengthen our 2017 Relay for Life event. Thank you for all that you have done and all that you will continue to do.
With much appreciation,
Caroline Wheless [email protected]
