I recently took a punch to the gut, an unexpected one. I’m sharing this because you’ve either been through it, are going through it, or will go through it in the future. I’m sure I will again too, none of us are exempt.
When I sought wise counsel, my super wise mentor gave wisdom I’d never heard before, and I wanted to share it with you in case it can help you too.
He said when we’re hurt that deeply we experience a wound that can bleed and produce swelling and to ice with quickly with the word of God.
I realized that we control how quickly we overcome pain. I remember taking a line drive to the knee in a championship co-ed softball team. My knee looked like a balloon. I had to go straight to urgent care where their ice machine was broken. I’ll never forget the anger I felt. My knee was on fire and swelling more and more by the minute.
I pulled through, but I didn’t get the ice quick enough, so the healing was delayed. There was a lot more swelling to get control of than there would have been had I had ice immediately. And I was in pain longer the I had to be.
When we get injured, the quicker we put ice on an injury the quicker it heals and reduces the inflammation. It prevents infection, eases the pain, and gives us hope for a strong recovery.
When we experience heartbreak and hurt, allowing God‘s word to be ice to our wounds puts our faith in Him as the healer and restorer. And He WILL.
If you don’t know where to start, find the book of James and read slowly and intentionally. Underline the things that stick out. Say a prayer. Think about it throughout the day.
If you haven’t put ice on it in days, months, or years since the stabbing please let today be the day you do. He’s faithful to make everything whole…..in Him. My knee took weeks to heal, my second degree burns took even longer to heal, but ice helped both.
