Mt. Hermon‘s dress code is not a strict one. The Grand Lodge requires only a collared shirt. We like to ask for that, as well as a sport coat or blazer if possible. But all are welcome. That said, it cannot be denied that dressing up for Lodge is part of the art of Masonry, and doing so does indeed show respect for our great Order.

I once intended to attend a lodge in Florida, and I asked the Master if there was anything I should know before attending. replied that I should just wear casual clothes because “we’re a country lodge and we don’t do coats and ties.” I was shocked at this statement. Where was the reverence for the Craft. Are we excellent or ordinary? Do I offend a Brother by dressing up?

Always, we strive to do our best.

Mt. Hermon Lodge No 118 will be conferring the Entered Apprentice degree this Thursday at 6:30pm. There will be no dinner provided that evening, but we will adjourn to the Presely Lounge following the ritual, for fellowship and fun. All Masons are welcome to attend and enjoy what should prove to be an exemplary night of Masonry.

Photo from last weekend’s District meeting with the Grand Master of Masons in North Carolina, Most Worshipful Brother Steve Norris. It was indeed a great morning of Masonry. WB Brian Loftin of Mt Hermon Lodge No 118 and WB Rusty Woomer of Veritas Lodge No 769 are just off center on the left of the photo.

I hope everyone is enjoying a nourishing Memorial Day weekend. For those of you Brothers who have lost loved ones in historical conflicts around the globe or on this soil, you have the warmest thoughts and support of your Lodge. And for all those who gave their lives to safeguard ours, we offer our humble salutations and thanks—which can never be payment enough. Though we ritualize the sacrifice of life for truth, there are those who have actually done so. May they be remembered for all times!

Men need a place to go, to be with like-minded men—not to indulge in animal passions of consuming, gambling, or politicking, but to develop and practice virtue in ways that are not only nourishing to the spirit but which also help to raise us up beyond the petty squabbles and discourse of our societies. Such places exists in our Masonic Lodges.

At Mt. Hermon Lodge, we have been providing such a an experience in our Hall, for the past 178 years. Men from all walks of life and of many generations gather as Brothers, to share fellowship, laughter, wisdom, story, song, sorrow, and a mutual desire to aid and assist any man and family of our Lodge who shall need our assistance.

We recruit none, but we always answer the door to he who knocks. If you’re a man, looking for true friendship and meaningful social connections based on truth, honesty, and integrity, come visit us on the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 for dinner. Visitors are always welcome at our table.

This evening was a profound experience in several ways. It was the evening Swannanoa Lodge voted to merge with Black Mountain Lodge. It was also the last time Swannanoa Lodge opened.....and closed.....as Swannanoa Lodge. It was an honor to be there, to witness it, and to be a part of it. It wasn't until the Closing Charge that the realization truly struck home.

Brethren, let us not forget:
Swannanoa Lodge No. 561, A.F. & A.M.
Dispensation granted: August 28, 1907
Charter issued: January 15, 1908
