Day 1 of the 2026 Summer Games was packed with excitement, determination, and outstanding performances!

Our 63 athletes from Special Olympics Buncombe County came ready to compete after months of hard work and preparation. They brought their A-game as they took to the courts, lanes, pool, and mats in bowling, gymnastics, basketball, swimming, and cheerleading.

We are incredibly proud of their effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork!

We had a blast at today's Spring Games at A.C. Reynolds High School! Congratulations to all of the athletes!

From the Torch Run lead by Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and Asheville Police Department to the competition at track and field events to the Olympic Village along with lunch sponsored by our Title Sponsor, Chick-fil-A, it was an amazing day.

A special thanks to Asheville Tourists Baseball Club, for shuttling spectators!

Thank you to all of our volunteers including all of the Buncombe County Schools staff and students and our corporate volunteer groups: GE Aerospace, AvL Technologies, America's Home Place: Custom Homes, and Ally Financial. We couldn't do it without you.

We're already looking forward to next year!

The rain didn’t slow us down! What an amazing day at our first Spring Games at T.C. Roberson High School! Congratulations to all of our athletes for their hard work, determination, and incredible performances throughout the day!

Thank you to everyone who helped make today’s Spring Games such a success! We want to say a special thank you to:

-Buncombe County Sheriff's Office and Asheville Police Department for leading the Torch Run to kickoff our day!

-Our six local Chick-fil-A operators for sponsoring lunch for all athletes and volunteers - almost 1100 lunches!

-Lori Long with Asheville Parks & Recreation for setting up an amazing Olympic Village and all of our vendors in Olympic Village.

-All of our volunteers including Buncombe County Schools' Curriculum Department for facilitating our Awards Areas, Teresa Hudson and the staff from Progressive Education Program for facilitating our Developmental Games Events, North Buncombe FFA for bringing their animal friends for us to visit with, the crew from GE Aerospace for setting up in the rain and assisting through takedown, and all of the students from T.C. Roberson High School and North Buncombe High School for running our track events and Young Athletes area.

We can’t wait to do it again at A.C. Reynolds High School on May 21st!

We can't wait to see everyone tomorrow!
