The Land O' Sky Doll Club is an Asheville, NC area not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating, stimulating and maintaining interest pertaining to doll collecting. Over the years, we have grown to a membership of nearly 50. We are affiliated with a national doll collecting organization, The United Federation of Doll Clubs (UFDC), which provides us with an avenue for research as well as the
opportunity to attend an annual national convention. Club members are encouraged to attend the national convention which is held in a different U.S. city each year, and offers seminars, workshops, special doll exhibits, a large sales room, lectures, and much more. Local club members have placed displays in libraries and schools. Our club donates a portion of our treasury to charitable organizations in the area each year. We have redressed dolls and donated them to hospitals, disaster victims, and crisis centers. Some of our members have presented doll related programs for children's groups, women's groups and others. Each month, a different member or members are responsible for presenting a program to the club. These programs can be a 'show and tell', a slide or Power Point presentation, posters, or a study of a specific doll or doll crafting technique. Our members collect a variety of doll types, such as bisque, wax, wooden, china, cloth, modern and paperdolls. In 1992, the club hosted their first 'Day With' event at the Deer Park Restaurant on the grounds of the famous Biltmore Estate. Every year a different well-known doll authority presented a special program about a particular doll subject. This wonderful doll event continued for twenty years. In 2012, the event's name was changed to 'Dolly's Holiday' and still provides doll collectors a great opportunity to hear some of the nation's foremost experts on dolls.
