Our long time volunteer and former board president, Betsy White was awarded the NC Governors Volunteer Award and honored at the Buncombe County Commissioner’s meeting on June 16th 2026. Betsy dedicates time weekly to support NAMI Western Carolina and leads from her lived experience. She facilitates NAMI Family Support Groups and she is instrumental in fundraising for NAMI WNC. Betsy’s vision as president enabled NAMI WNC to make leaps and bounds to become what it is today.

We have been hosting this weekly art group for folks to collage, create, and connect every Tuesday 12-1, at our office located in Asheville! We also host an art explorations group Thursdays 10-11. We would love to see you there!

We are excited to celebrate that we reached our $30,000 fundraising goal for this year’s NAMIwalks Joy Fest. This is a milestone for NAMI WNC as this is the most money we have raised for a single fundraiser thus far.

Our work at NAMI western Carolina is often centered around being present with the pain of the world and supporting those who are navigating deep challenge. This year, we made a very conscious choice to rebrand our annual walk as Joy Fest because joy is how we reclaim ourselves from the impacts of oppressive systems. This audio was clipped from our executive director Robin’s opening speech at Joy Fest. Thank you everyone who came out to celebrate and reclaim aliveness together. We will continue this work of being present with pain while also remembering our way back to feeling joy in our bodies.

This Saturday, come have a blast while supporting mental health in western Carolina. We’re officially at 89% of our fundraising goal, and we are aiming to close the gap at Joy Fest! We will parade through the town at 12 pm!! There will be live music, community singing, and 40 nonprofits and art vendors. We cannot wait to see you there❤️ and as always, thank you for supporting our work!
