The Mediation Center is now accepting applications for our next Community Mediation Training beginning September 30th, 2026 and we are prioritizing volunteers in Polk and Transylvania counties!

Our 50-hour training prepares volunteers to serve as community mediators, helping neighbors, families, roommates, and others work through conflict in a respectful, collaborative way. No prior mediation experience is required. We welcome participants from a variety of backgrounds who are committed to learning and serving their communities.

We’re hiring!

The Mediation Center is seeking a part-time Client Services Coordinator for our Family Visitation Program operating out of our Hendersonville office. The Client Services Coordinator supports families participating in supervised visitation and safe exchange services.

We’re looking for someone who is organized, compassionate, and comfortable working with families navigating difficult circumstances.

Current volunteer mediators receive ongoing support, mentorship, continuing education, and opportunities to mediate alongside experienced partners.

Meet Ourdia! Ourdia has been a Volunteer Mediator since 2025. Ovurdia tells us why she wanted to volunteer:

"I became a community mediator to be a force for positive change in my community. The Mediation Center has given me the opportunity to help people out of conflicts they felt were unsolvable. Frankly, sometimes I too shared that belief at the beginning of some sessions. However, the mediation model The Mediation Center trains us to use works to a degree that at times feels nothing short of a miracle.

My community mediating experience so far has rewarded me with seeing participants initially in conflict with each other leave a mediation session appeased and relieved for having found an agreement that will improve their relationships with their neighbor, roommate, parent or adult child. Interestingly, it has also helped me become a better wife, friend, sibling and daughter. This whole experience has been a win-win for me, and I couldn't recommend it enough."
