Our Voice

Our Voice Our Voice serves survivors of sexual violence, and human trafficking ages 13 and up Founded in 1974
Our VOICE, Inc.

is a non-profit crisis intervention and prevention agency that serves survivors of sexual violence, age 13 through adult, in Buncombe County. The agency was founded in 1974 as an all-volunteer grassroots organization. The agency remained underground until August 1983 when we received our 501(c)(3) status as a non-profit agency and the first employee was hired. Now, 40 years and considerable growth

later, Our VOICE employs six paid staff and over 50 volunteers, working both to support the healing of survivors of sexual violence and to prevent future acts of sexual violence.

Preventing sexual violence and human trafficking takes all of us. The Bar Outreach Project (BOP) offers education, discussion, and practical tools to help prevent Drug Facilitated Sexual Assault in nightlife spaces key to that prevention. Through this program, Our Voice is equipping bar staff with the tools to recognize warning signs early and act before harm occurs.

Whether or not you were a Pints for Our Voice partner, any bar or alcohol-serving establishment can benefit from this training.

Happy Pride from Our Voice! This Pride Month, we're celebrating our LGBTQ+ community and holding space for the LGBTQ+ survivors in our midst.

LGBTQ+ individuals face disproportionately high rates of sexual violence and trafficking. And too often, they face additional barriers when seeking help: fear of discrimination, lack of affirming services, or simply not seeing themselves reflected in the support available to them.

This month and every month, we stand alongside LGBTQ+ survivors. If you or someone you know needs support, we're here: 828-255-7576. 💛

If you manage a bar or alcohol serving establishment, this video is for you! Though Pints for Our Voice is over for the year, Pints partners are invited to continue their work of supporting survivors by participating in the Bar Outreach Project (BOP).

BOP is a training for bars and alcohol serving establishments that offers ways to understand, prevent, and intervene in drug facilitated sexual assault (DFSA) which can happen in places where alcohol (the most easily accessible date r**e drug) is flowing.

BOP helps bar staff notice concerning behavior early and take action before harm occurs. Through education, discussion, and practical tools, the training supports businesses in creating a culture of safety, accountability, and care.

And, even if you weren’t a Pints partner, any bar or alcohol serving establishment can take Bar Outreach Project training. Call 828-252-0526 with questions or to schedule a training today: https://www.ourvoicenc.org/programs/

Let's talk about consent. 🗣️

It's not a one-time checkbox. It's freely given, enthusiastic, reversible, and ongoing. In our latest blog, we break down what consent really means, why it matters beyond physical intimacy, and how to build relationships where everyone feels safe and heard.
