Did you know that more older children and teens drown in open water than in pools? A day at the beach or the lake is fun for kids, but open water also has risks, which are different from those in a swimming pool. According to the United States Coast Guard, 87% of people who drown while boating were not wearing a life jacket. Be aware of situations that are unique to open water, such as limited visibility, depth, uneven surfaces, currents, and undertow.

Do you know the best swimsuit color for your child's safety? Many parents select swimsuits based on style, cuteness, or comfort. However, those factors become irrelevant once a child goes underwater! In order to spot your child quickly if there's an emergency, it's important to pick the right swimsuit colors for safety is more significant than most people realize.

🌊Water absorbs light unevenly, making only a few select colors stand out from under the surface.

☀️Neon yellow & neon green stand out, while blues, oranges, and pinks disappear completely underwater due to glare & color distortion in pools.

🤽Chlorine, ripples, and bright sunlight scatter light, making white and light pastels look like surface reflections.

🔥 Right Alarm. Right Location. 🔥

Do you know if your smoke alarms are in the right place? Here's what every household needs to know:

📍 LOCATION
Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home. In the basement, mount on the ceiling at the bottom of the stairs. On levels without bedrooms, place in a common room or near the stairway.

📐 PLACEMENT
Mount on the ceiling toward the middle — at least 4 inches from walls. If ceiling installation isn't possible, mount on the wall no closer than 4 inches from the ceiling.

📅 EXPIRATION
Smoke alarms are rated for 10 years. Check the manufacture date on the back of your alarm — if it's expired, replace it today!

✅ TEST
Test your smoke alarms at least once a month. Replace batteries at least once a year (unless your alarm has a 10-year sealed battery).

🛒 INSTALL
Only install UL-listed alarms purchased from local or online retailers.

🍳 AVOID NUISANCE ALARMS
Keep smoke alarms at least 10 feet from cooking appliances and 3 feet away from bathrooms and laundry rooms.

Your family's safety starts with the right alarm in the right place. Share this post to help keep your community safe! ❤️

It’s Bike Safety Month! Did you know that properly fitted helmets can reduce the risk of head injuries by at least 45%? Get the proper fit for your safety gear by doing a helmet fit test with your kids!

Here's how in three simple steps:

1. Eyes: Put the helmet on your head. Look up. You should see the bottom rim of the helmet.

2. Ears: Make sure the straps form a "V" under the ears when buckled. The straps should be a little tight but comfortable.

3. Mouth: Open your mouth as wide as you can. Does the helmet hug your head? If not, tighten the strap.

Voila, you're done! Something as simple as wearing a helmet (properly!) can make a big difference in keeping your child safe. 🚴🏿
