Our Voices, Our Stories: Season Two Begins

Our Voices, Our Stories premiered in fall 2025. In our first year, we interviewed 10 community members and produced 30 videos, along with more than 100 short clips from those conversations. The experience was educational and heartwarming, and the stories reached audiences across the United States and in several other countries.
Our Voices, Our Stories was created by butchOUT and Flat Shadow Productions to preserve, celebrate, and share the diverse lived experiences of gay men in Western North Carolina (WNC).

In our second season we are opening the studio to more members of the LGBTQ+ community. The season will feature some familiar faces in the WNC LGBTQ+ community and a greater introduction to other diverse, insightful, and courageous citizens of these mountains. Our mission stays the same: to preserve, celebrate, and share the diverse lived experiences of the LGBTQ+ community in Western North Carolina (WNC). Through personal narratives, we aim to honor the resilience, identity, and cultural contributions of our community—past and present.

We have just started our second season, an interview with Tracy Elliot, Executive Director of Asheville Humane highlighting his story becoming his authentic self, his work in nonprofits and more. And we are excited about what is coming next. Some round table discussions, some more educational information and most importantly more showcasing the vast diversity of our community and the common threads that weave through our stories.
