Our boys put in a great effort on a very warm day. This is a local site that they use frequently. Putting in this level of effort gives them a greater sense of ownership and will inspire them to keep it in good shape every time they camp here.

Every year, around Earth Day, we pickup trash along the streets of Ashaway.

Hopkinton Rec has started hosting a similar event, but sometimes we have schedule conflicts. This year, we had our event a week after theirs.

The boys filled 9 trash bags and filled a couple of 5 gallon buckets that they found along the way.

Streets that they worked:
Cemetery Ln
Knight St
Palmer St
Laurel St (between Palmer and Hillside)
Hillside Ave
Main St (from Hillside, to the Fire Station)

One boy, not associated with our troop, was riding his bike up and down Laurel Street. He got off his bike and helped our boys with hauling trash out of the woods. It's always nice to see others in the community helping with stuff like this.

If there are any Troop 21 alumni still local, that would like to visit our current scouts, we're cabin camping this weekend. Plenty of food if you want to come by for dinner tomorrow.

If interested, message me, and I'll tell you where we're at.

****UPDATE****
Collection point relocated to the parking lot behind the Ashaway Fire Station. So Saturday morning 11/1, between 9 AM and 11 AM, if your donation hasn't been picked up, you can take it there.

Tomorrow morning, 10/25, local scouting units will be doing their annual Scouting For Food Drive. I want to say this annual drive started in 1985, so this may be the 40th year. Back then we did it uphill, both ways, in 3 feet of snow (at least that's what we tell the kids).

Scouting isn't as popular as it used to be, so less scouts are trying to cover more area. Their parents will be driving them or walking with them up and down the streets of their assigned route. Appreciate your patience and kindness while these tags are going out.

I can't speak for other areas, but for the Ashaway area:

If you don't get a tag and want to contribute, please bring your donation to ASHAWAY FIRE DEPARTMENT back parking lot NEXT Saturday, 11/1 between 9 AM and 11 AM.

If you get a tag, please leave your donation on your front step (hopefully by the door where your tag was dropped off) BEFORE 9 AM on 11/1.

Donations from the Ashaway area will be going to the food pantry at the Johnnycake Center.
