To the and leadership of :

Yesterday was one of the darkest days in a long series of dark days.

Another mark of shame added to the long, and growing list in our country’s recent history. We witnessed an attempted .

We watched, in real time, as a horde of white supremacists - shielded by the umbrella of “conservatism” - attack our capitol building.

This reprehensible attack was spurred on by an unhinged, power-mad would-be dictator whose voracious appetite for validation through his cult-like following is matched only by his ability to mislead and lie to the public - and his dwindling constituents - about everything he touches.

The events which transpired yesterday will carry with them far-reaching impacts on public safety, discourse, and in very real ways, self-reflection from every American who carries with them a conscience and moral compass that guides them towards kindness.

In that same vein, we, as a nation of doers and progressives must hypothesize how the outcome of yesterdays horrors would have played out if the white supremacists attacking the Capitol Police were members of the BLM movement.

We all know, in our hearts, how differently this would have ended had the people storming the United States Capitol Building had been BIPOC.

Hate groups like the Proud Boys, the K*K, the European Heritage Movement, and so many other repugnant organizations who espouse credos of hatred, white supremacy, eugenics, anti-science doctrine, and QANON conspiracy theories were on full display for not only the nation, but the world to see.

They were allowed to climb the walls of the Capitol Building.

They were granted gracious access by Capitol Police - see the video of the PD simply opening the gates to allow them to flood the promenade.

They were not stopped as they looted, rioted, and in several instances, urinated in the halls of our most sacred and hallowed institutions. These temples of democracy, which are owned by WE the people.

And so we at Asbury Park Demands Police Oversight pose the question to you all:

What do you do when someone comes into YOUR house, smashes YOUR windows, and quite literally pi**es on YOUR door?

Action must be taken. A line in the sand must be drawn against both the forces who enabled this horrific behavior, and the perpetrators themselves. The deafening silence of our civic leadership indicates complicity.

We will not stand for it. We will not let those in power share that power with the hordes who encourage and enact hatred and unmitigated barbarism, homophobia, xenophobia, transphobia, and uphold systemic racism in OUR , OUR , or OUR .
