Five young people were watching meteors in the Boundary Waters. Everyone had seen one except Allen - so the group decided to stay until he did.

That’s just one of the moments in this Osprey story about a Big City Mountaineers canoe expedition. There were first fish, first nights camping, heavy packs, and the discovery: “I didn’t know I loved this.”

Experiencing the outdoors with others can transform strangers into a supportive community. We often hear from youth about the powerful connections they make on our trips. As one student shared, "I feel very close now to the people I thought of as strangers before the trip."

These moments of belonging and shared adventure are at the heart of what we do. They remind us that together, we can explore new possibilities and build lasting bonds.

Sitting by the lake, taking a moment to connect with nature - that's what our afterschool program at Seward Park is all about. Recently, Zamora shared how she felt truly connected to the goose and the waves during her sit-spot reflection.

These moments in the outdoors help young people build confidence, develop life skills, and form a deeper connection with the natural world. We believe every young person deserves the chance to experience these transformative adventures.

It doesn't have to be a huge expedition. Sometimes, the most powerful way to connect a young person with the outdoors is to start with one simple invitation.

Think about sharing a single skill: paddling across a calm lake, hiking a local trail, or telling stories around a campfire. These simple first steps are what make the outdoors feel possible and welcoming, especially for someone who's never had the chance.

This is the heart of our work. We partner with trusted youth-serving organizations to provide that very first invitation for young people who face barriers to access, helping them feel a sense of belonging in nature.

What an incredible summer! We're still buzzing from a season of outdoor adventures that connected 383 unique youth with the power of the wilderness. Through 214 program days, these young people explored, learned, and grew. None of this would have been possible without the dedication of our 115 amazing volunteers and strong partnerships with 27 youth agencies. Your commitment truly makes a difference.

As the leaves begin to turn, we're excited to bring even more outdoor experiences with our upcoming fall programs. Stay tuned for details on how you can continue to explore and support our mission!

Tom Miller truly showed us what Adventure Fundraising is all about on his multi-day trek through the stunning Dolomites! His journey was filled with "jaw-dropping views," "meeting great people in the refugios," and even "trying to eat my weight in pie." We were so inspired to hear that seeing donations pop up along the way made it even more unforgettable.
