Mile High Chapter Recipient Spotlight: Get to Know Fatou!

Question: What would you say to the Chapter if you had an opportunity to personally thank them?

Answer: Hello, Mile High Chapter! I would like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for awarding me with this scholarship. Since I was old enough to grasp the concept of having a job, I knew I wanted to work in the medical field. While there has always been some deliberation on what exactly I wish to do, the idea of working in medicine and helping people live their lives to their fullest potential has always enraptured me, and thanks to this scholarship, I am one step closer to achieving this goal.

Throughout my childhood, the concept of having a strong work ethic has been engrained in me as I watched my immigrant parents push themselves to their limits and bend over backwards to provide for my siblings and I. I learned early on that to achieve the career aspirations I've dreamed of for so long, I have to be willing to give my all and work hard, seizing every opportunity and not being afraid to take risks, as ultimately, pushing myself is what will help me get far in life.

Attending the University of Wisconsin-Madison will provide my the opportunity to push myself farther than I ever have before. By leaving home to pursue a higher education at such an esteemed institution, I understand I will constantly be giving my all, seeking new opportunities and challenging myself to be a better student, daughter, and future medical professional everyday, and it is all thanks to the Mile High Chapter for helping alleviate the financial strain on my family and providing me the opportunity to flourish in Madison.

Mile High Chapter Recipient Spotlight: Get to Know Fatou!

Question: Can you tell us a bit about your yourself?

Answer: My name is Fatou Mbaye, and I am a rising freshman from Aurora, CO. Throughout my life, I have always enjoyed taking on leadership roles. Whether it be done through helping spearhead group projects or helping organize various community service events, I have learned that being at the forefront of any endeavor I take on is engrained into my very being.

During my time in high school, I found the perfect opportunity to hone my various leadership skills in the different clubs available at my school. I joined FBLA as a shy freshmen with two girls I barely knew with the encouragement of my entrepreneurship teacher and emerged as a confident leader who ended up winning state for my event in Social Media Strategies and serving as my chapter's Vice President of Marketing by the time I reached my senior year. I was also involved in my schools Student Leadership class. where I worked with my peers to put on various events for the school, serving as the Student Body Community Service and Outreach officer my senior year.

One proud moment for me in this organization was advocating for breast cancer awareness and not allowing my school to stop celebrating this significant week just because it was no longer a district requirement. As I've aged, I have learned to prioritize activities that not only impassion me, but help others lead an easier life, a lesson that I am most proud of and driven by every day.

Mile High Chapter Recipient Spotlight: Get to Know Fatou!

Question: What are you looking forward to most about your upcoming year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison?

Answer: At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I am most excited to take advantage of the multitude of opportunities at my fingertips. By attending a university that is so large and full of resources, I find myself in a unique position where I can explore my career interest and discover new avenues I maybe never would have had the opportunity to if I wasn't admitted to this institution.

Whether its through varying classes that may veer out of my comfort zone to open myself up to new perspectives, or undertaking the multitude of research prospects available, I am incredibly excited to dip my toes into every part of campus and make the most of my years at this university that will ultimately challenge my way of thought and push me to become a sharper, better prepared version of myself as I prepare to take on my future endeavors.
