Participation, essential in the survey project

We continue our posts on the upcoming survey project with highlights of formation, study, and scholarly reflection in the life of the Church. Bro. Benedict Tiongson Laygo, FDM, OFS, a seminarian from the Diocese of San Fernando de La Union, reminds us that the call to serve the People of God is also a call to seek truth with humility, discipline, and fidelity. Indeed, Bro. Benedict’s research reflects a serious study of stewardship. We would love to hear from others who have engaged in such studies.

Meanwhile, we hope that our upcoming survey project is part of that same effort that will spark serious interest in publications of research and books that will assist parishes and dioceses in embracing stewardship spirituality and Christian practice.

By gathering the insights of clergy, lay leaders, as well as parish and diocesan personnel, we hope to build a clearer and more informed picture of stewardship practices in the Church in the Philippines and beyond. Your participation will help support research, reflection, and responsible dialogue in service of the Church.

Survey project may encourage academic and pastoral research and books on stewardship

The late Professor Emeritus Charles E. Zech left a meaningful legacy through his books on stewardship, including “Best Practices of Catholic Pastoral and Finance Councils,” “Best Practices in Parish Stewardship,” “Catholic Parishes of the 21st Century, “and “Why Catholics Don’t Give...And What Can Be Done About It.” His work continues to inspire reflection on stewardship formation, accountability, and transparency in the Church.

In a similar way, I once reviewed a seminarian’s (Bro. Benedict Laygo) thesis, “From Seminary to Street: A Levinasian Perspective on St. Joseph Formation House’s Balik-Handog,” which showed how theological study can speak to lived pastoral experience.

Through our upcoming stewardship survey project, we hope to encourage academic and pastoral research among theologians, seminarians, and scholars.

If interested, please email [email protected].

Serving the Mission with Trust and Care

An organization is never built by one person alone—not even by its founder. It is sustained by a board of directors and officers who help keep its mission grounded, its direction steady, and its stewardship faithful.

At Metro Infanta Foundation, the Board of Directors serves as a circle of trusted stewards, guarding the integrity of every decision and honoring the fiduciary responsibilities entrusted to the Foundation with honesty, prudence, and care. The officers perform the day-to-day operations of the Foundation!

Their quiet yet vital service reflects a shared commitment to responsibility, transparency, and accountability—values that strengthen the Foundation’s mission and preserve its trustworthiness for the communities it serves.

Just learned that Professor Emeritus Charles Zech of Villanova University, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026, according to his daughter Patty Zech-Laurnto. Professor Zech’s books on stewardship are widely read among stewardship beginners, longtime practitioners, and experts!

I have admired Charles Zech for years, have copies of his books (See a few of his books below.), and quoted him often at my own seminars! We had him as a guest speaker at St. Thomas More years ago, and he had given many talks on stewardship at the annual ICSC conferences, the last one of which for me was in 2019 when he graciously invited me to join him at his reserved table. He was an incredible promoter of stewardship and we will miss him dearly!

May he rest in eternal peace.

YACies: Singing with Humility, Love, and Faithful Service

The Young and Adult Choir or YACies began in the early 1980s as a faith-filled group of students, alumni, and young professionals united in serving Saint Mark Cathedral and Infanta Jesus of Prague Parish through music.

Guided by dedicated mentors through the years, including Mr. Romer Joseph Adelan, an alumnus of St. Paul University Manila Batch ‘25, the choir has continued to share God’s word, inspire the faithful, and support the parish community through its ministry of song.

With their director Elsie C. Alparce, the YACies also composed award-winning songs such as “Dalit sa Manlilikha” and the “Jubilee Song,” which became part of significant celebrations in the parish and prelature.

Through changing times and changing members, the choir remains committed to serving with humility, love, and obedience as Christ-like stewards.

For 30 years, Metro Infanta Foundation has journeyed from humble beginnings to lasting community impact on the faith, leadership, service, cultural preservation, and stewardship that have shaped our mission.

As we prepare for the Memorial Awards, we remain grateful for the opportunity to honor lives that inspire, uplift, and make a difference.

Behind every dollar is a story of transformation:

— The student who benefited from $314,031 in education grants and who became the first to earn a college degree in the family (Graduates in photo for illustration purposes only)

—The historic Gabaldon building at Infanta Central Elementary School, lovingly restored through $188,229 in grants, now serves generations of young learners.

—In Tanzania, a seminary built with $149,150 in Foundation support is forming the next generation of Discalced Carmelite priests who will serve communities across East Africa and beyond. Fr. Israel Gonsalves, OCD, then a parochial vicar at St. Thomas More partnered with MIF on this project,

—Through El Jardin De La Nina Maria alone, $106,450 in scholarships has given young people the gift of education—including two $25,000 grants just this year.

—When Typhoon Haiyan devastated the Visayas in 2013, your support enabled $47,500 in emergency relief help build at least 50 houses for the Diocese of Borongan and Archdiocese of Palo.
