When Amara was born 10 weeks early with only one kidney, her mom was suddenly faced with uncertainty about how she would be nourished in those first fragile days. Her care team recommended donor human milk from Mothers' Milk Bank.

For premature and medically fragile babies like Amara, donor human milk is more than nutrition—it is lifesaving support. It provides essential protection and nourishment when a parent’s own milk is unavailable.

At Mothers’ Milk Bank, we rely on the generosity of milk donors and supporters to make this possible. Because of them, babies like Amara receive the critical start they need to grow and thrive. 💙

Every bottle of donor milk plays an important role in supporting babies who are born premature or medically fragile. When a mother’s own milk is not available, donor human milk provides essential nutrition that helps protect, nourish, and support growth during those critical early days.❤️

From the moment Tiarra met her baby Olivia, she knew something was different. She had a smooth pregnancy and peaceful delivery, but just an hour after Olivia was born, their world shifted when genetic testing confirmed their daughter had Down Syndrome.

Tiarra and her husband met the news with peace and love. They had always planned on adopting a child with Down Syndrome and felt prepared for the journey ahead. Their focus became ensuring Olivia received the care and support she needed for the best possible start.

In those early days, feeding was difficult and Tiarra struggled as she waited for her milk to come in while trying to get Olivia to latch. The lactation team worked closely with them, but the experience was overwhelming—especially as Tiarra had to leave the hospital each day without her baby.

During that time, donor human milk from Mothers' Milk Bank became a source of comfort. Tiarra knew Olivia was receiving the nutrition she needed, which brought reassurance during an emotional and uncertain time. 💙

Ensuring the safety of every drop is our top priority! 💙 Donor screening is a critical part of the milk donation process, as it helps us protect the health of both babies and donors. This process includes a comprehensive health history review, medical screening, and laboratory testing to detect any potential risks, such as infections or contaminants.

Why is it so important?

✅ Health History: We assess each donor’s medical background to ensure they’re healthy and free from conditions that could affect milk quality.

✅ Blood Testing: Donors are tested for diseases like HIV, hepatitis, and syphilis, ensuring the milk is safe for the babies it nourishes.

✅ The Right Match: Donating milk isn’t a fit for everyone, and that’s okay. Our donor screening process helps us ensure it is the right choice for our donors, fits with their own needs, and ensures they have enough milk to support their own baby before donating.

Every step ensures that donated milk is pure, safe, and life-saving for vulnerable infants. Thank you to all our amazing donors—your generosity and commitment are making a world of difference! 🌟

What happens to my milk when it’s donated?

Once your milk is donated, it goes through careful processing and safety checks before being shared with babies who need it most. 💙

✅ Weighed, recorded, and kept frozen – Your milk is carefully logged, weighed, and immediately stored in a temperature-controlled freezer.

✅ Defrosted, analyzed, and pooled with other donors – Once thawed, your milk may be combined with others to create a balanced mix and analyzed for nutritional content.

✅ Portioned, sealed, labeled, and pasteurized – The milk is divided into specialty bottles, sealed, labeled with a tracking barcode, and pasteurized to remove harmful bacteria while preserving key nutrients.

✅ Testing & safety checks – Each batch is tested to confirm it meets safety and quality standards.

✅ Delivered to tiny tummies in hospitals and homes! – Your milk provides critical nutrition to fragile babies in NICUs and to families who need it for their baby.
