Fighting for Colorado students to be financially stable This page promotes and informs people about the lack of financial literacy taught in Colorado schools.

The movement, Down with Dough, started through a Girl Scout Gold Award project, has grown tremendously. The movement now plans to pass statewide legislation to require public schools to teach a financial literacy class. The legislation would also provide educators with resources on financial literacy to help students find more information on financial topics. Down with Dough will focus on educatin

g the community about the importance of Financial Literacy and hopes to target both students in secondary education and higher education.

Congratulations to North Carolina for implementing a personal finance class! Thank you for recognizing the importance of Financial Literacy Education and taking steps to empower young adults with skills that will help them throughout their life.

The new economics class will replace one of two American history courses currently required for graduation. What do you think of this move?

Down with Dough Incorporated on January 1st, 2017 and will be applying for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS. Things are starting to pick up again and we at DWD are excited to see where things are headed!

Financial education works best when students learn how financial decisions relate directly to real life situations. Situations like identity theft and what students can do to prevent it from happening to them. This is exactly what my financial unit taught students in the classroom! In the graph you can clearly see the improvement of students test scores and their comprehension by directly relating the information to real life. The average score moved 13.4 points!

Colorado is given a grade of "C" by a Chaplain College report studying Financial Literacy rates of students and how it is taught in schools. The grade is passing, however if you know you or your student can do better, a "C" is not good enough. I believe we can do better!
