We celebrate the progress made and the fight that continues until equality is recognized under the law and in all hearts.

While some scouting organizations consider LGBT membership on a "case by case basis' or at the discretion of chartering organizations, Outdoor Service Guides welcome members of any gender on the spectrum and any sexual orientation.

While many might first think of hiking on , trails can also lead to other adventures, like rock climbing or a boat dock. No better way to celebrate our trails than staying on them and leaving no trace other than an occasional boot print.

Guides in OSG learn Leave No Trace as young as kindergarten and go on many hikes, canoe treks, camping trips, and more throughout the year at both day and night. The Otters pictured here are completing a 2.5 mile day hike at Lair o' the Bear Park in the Rocky Mountain foothills.

Happy Snow Day, too!

Today, 3.14, is Pi Day. You may celebrate the number. You may celebrate the dessert.

In Outdoor Service Guides, all our age levels participate in cooking. We teach Otters (Grades K-2) how to safely handle kitchen knives and chop vegetables. We teach Timberwolves (Grades 3-5) how to safely lay and light fires with a Ferro rod. Pathfinder Patrols (Grades 6-12) independently plan, shop, cook, and clean up their own meals.

Here's how scouts of any age can contribute to making a simple and tasty apple pie during a campout: https://youtu.be/UIX6EDahm6M

Outdoor Service Guides has always welcomed genders anywhere along the spectrum. All our groups at every age level are co-ed because separation, within or between any organizations, isn't equal.

On International Women's Day (and everyday) we celebrate our women and girl guides while also recognizing the inequities that persist in society and the persistence of women and their allies in combating them.

"Friendly, courteous, kind." Three points of the Scout Law whether you're an OSG Guide or a member of Scouts BSA. Or if you're a Girl Scout, "friendly and helpful, considerate and caring . . . respect myself and others". These ideas, friendly, courteous, considerate, caring, and respectful of others, could be found under the same entry in a thesaurus. Not all youth scouting programs clearly denote the differences.

For example, kind isn't being kind in general. That could be covered with courteous or friendly. In the original scout law, and still in Outdoor Service Guides, kind specifically refers to plants and animals.

Pathfinders from the 17th Black Bears demonstrated this point of the Scout Law by building bee hotels for pollinators this past weekend. Bees and other pollinators have a place to live and gather food. Flowering plants in the area are pollinated by the insects who now live there.

OSG's National Board at their recent campout and rendezvous. Unlike other youth organizations that can be a little top-heavy, Outdoor Service Guide's National Board is completely comprised of volunteer leaders. This means guide's dues go to a small $20 registration fee to cover adult background checks, and the rest goes directly to their program - campouts, hikes, group meetings, and other outdoor activities. Scouts in OSG don't participate in any national sales programs (like cookies or popcorn), and families aren't asked for a donation to help pay salaries - there are none.

Members of the board also participate in leading their own local groups across the nation. So board members work with guides in their own groups and know what programming looks like at the local level, which informs the decisions they make for the organization as a whole.
