Today’s challenge for is to discuss our favorite pageant week snack. Honestly, I don’t have one. I sort of grab whatever is available or I snack on whatever the baby is snacking on as a way of spending time with him during a week that’s jammed packed with activities.

However, I do drink a lot of water….stay hydrated ladies. It’s easy to forget!

If you know me, then you know that I’ve always been more of a pants person than a dress person. Pageants offer an opportunity to try out something different and for me that means getting dolled up and feeling fabulous in a gown.

I wish I could say that I have a favorite but honestly, I love them all. Here are some of the looks I’ve tried out over the last two years.

One of the coolest things that I have done during my reign this year is become a certified firefighter. As a loyal member of my department, I have taken a strong interest in helping organize events and raise money for gear and equipment to help keep my brothers safe and help us work more efficiently to protect our community.

This past weekend, my fundraising efforts were rewarded beyond the walls of our department.

Thank you to everyone who sponsored him.

Congratulations little Buster - 2024 Little Master Fireman 👨‍🚒

My home town isn’t a town at all, it’s a community!

Arthurdale is an unincorporated community in built in 1933 at the height of the Great Depression. The community was First Lady, Elenor Rosevelts pet project and was built as social experiment to provide opportunities for unemployed local miners and farmers. Although the New Deal failed due to poor government budgeting, the town continued to live on and still today functions with some of the same kindness and cooperative fundamentals established during its founding.

Mrs. Rosevelt is absolutely one my inspirations of kindness and community and I’m blessed to have grown up in this community and to have returned to raise my children here.

Truth be told, pictures are my least favorite part of pageantry. I’d rather be behind the camera than in front of it but headshots are sort of a must for contestants….and for professionals alike. I had a hard time this year picking between my profile picture and my second choice.

“How do you keep calm during pageant week?”After all the hard work and effort that I put into the weeks leading up to pageant week, there isn’t any stress left to be spent. I can’t prepare anymore. I can’t practice anymore. If I haven’t done it by pageant week….I choose to let it go.Mental health tip: You can control some of your feelings if you practice it often and learn to control your thought patterns. So during pageant week, I focus on my family that is supporting me and my new found friends that I’m about to make. I try to come prepared and organized so that “hiccups” don’t happen (but they always do) and I just enjoy myself.

What would I do if I won?

Well, first I would cry. I would love to pretend that it would be this beautiful, tasteful cry but let’s get real….it would be an ugly cry.

I’ve put a lot of thought into this question. I’ve laid it bed at night and talked about why I want something so badly. So, it would absolutely be an ugly cry.

I was asked this same question during my interview last year and there were judges that didn’t love my answer. That’s ok. Maybe I’m stubborn or just true to myself but my answer hasn’t really changed much this year.

If I won, I wouldn’t do anything differently except expand my reach, my work, and my dedication to the organization.

I would still serve but I would serve bigger and farther. I would still encourage women to find their confidence and be the best, happiest versions of themselves but I would do it in more states and reach more women.
I would still promote the organization that is AWOS with all my heart…..my heart would just be a little bigger and my crown a little taller.

Historically, a crown was a sign of a leader. So if I win….a crown can’t change who I am, it will only make me work harder, serve larger, lead greater!

If you’ve been reading my posts, I’m sure you’ve put together that I absolutely love the American Women of Service Organization. Anyone who knows me will tell you that it makes perfect sense for me to be so invested in this organization because it represents the type of woman that I’m always striving to be:
- a woman who serves her communities
- a woman who empowers other women

There are dozens more reasons why I love AWOS but these two are by far the most important to me.

If you’re interested in any of these things, message me. I would love to share with you how you too can be part of this organization. ❤️
