What a powerful start!

Today, representatives from The Dissident Project spent the day speaking with high school students here in Artesia, and the room was full and engaged from start to finish. The students listened, took notes, and asked thoughtful questions about freedom, free expression, and what life looks like for people living under authoritarian governments.

There is something special about hearing these stories firsthand. It's one thing to read about the value of our freedoms in a textbook. It's another to hear from someone who knows what it means to live without them.

Watching our young people lean in and wrestle with big ideas gave me a lot of hope for the future of our community and our country.

Thank you to Grace Jo and Daniel Chang Contreras and The Dissident Project team for making the trip to Artesia, New Mexico, and to Artesia Public Schools, the teachers, and staff who welcomed them and made today possible. And to the students: your curiosity and respect today were impressive. Keep asking questions.

Day one is in the books, and we're looking forward to what's ahead!

Community Reception

Two Stories. Two Countries. One Powerful Message: Freedom Matters.

The PY Foundation is honored to host a special evening reception featuring Daniel Change Contreras from Venezuela and Grace Jo from North Korea, both Young Voices Dissidents who will be joining us in Artesia to share their personal stories.

Daniel and Grace have experienced firsthand what it means to live without the freedoms many of us can sometimes take for granted. Their journeys offer a powerful perspective on liberty, opportunity, and what it means to discover freedom in America.

This special evening will give our community the opportunity to hear directly from Daniel and Grace, ask questions, and engage in meaningful conversation about their experiences and the freedoms we value as Americans.

As women in Artesia, New Mexico, we are incredibly blessed to live in a country where our voices matter. We have the freedom to speak up, to serve, to lead, to volunteer, to vote, to build businesses, to raise strong families, and to shape the future of our community.

Around the world, there are countless women who do not have those same opportunities. Many cannot openly share their opinions, pursue their dreams, or help influence the future of their communities.

How fortunate are we?

With that freedom comes responsibility.

Every act of service, every community meeting attended, every child mentored, every nonprofit supported, every neighbor helped, and every conversation about making Artesia better is an investment in the generations that will come after us.

Our daughters—and their daughters—are watching. They will inherit the community we choose to build today.

America gives each of us the opportunity to make a difference. Let's never take that privilege for granted. Instead, let's continue to use our talents, our compassion, and our determination to strengthen Artesia and leave it better than we found it.

This Independence Day, may we celebrate not only our freedoms but also our responsibility to serve, lead, and inspire.

From all of us at Women for a Better Artesia, thank you for being women who care deeply about our community and who continue to make a lasting impact.
