Calling all VOLUNTEERS! Join us for our May garden and Nature Center WORKDAY on May 23rd from 9am-12pm. It will be the perfect time to spend the morning outdoors helping care for our school garden. We will be working on thinning the banana grove, clearing brush from the trails and putting together and filling a few planters for our garden. Your helping hands will make such a difference and will make a huge impact on our students! Please respond to our event page if you are able to help.

There is one thing that hands down our students love the most about their visits to the garden….sampling fruit! Our garden fruit trees are showing signs of a productive harvest! Which fruit do you recognize?
Every school deserves a garden space, a native plant garden, and fruit trees that the students can share. When children grow up tending plants and caring for the land, they learn that they are not just users of the earth’s resources—they are its stewards. 🌱🍊🌳

By giving students the chance to nurture living spaces, we plant something even greater than gardens: a lifelong respect for nature and the understanding that caring for the earth is part of caring for each other. 🌎✨

Spring showers bring May flowers, or in our case, April poppies! The infamous California poppy and the Matilija Poppy or “fried egg poppy”. Can you guess which one is which?
Also, with the help of Master Gardener Grow LA Garden trainees and a few hard working Niemes parents, students and staff volunteers, the Nature Center is getting a well deserved spring cleaning! Please contact the Niemes office if you are interested in volunteering at one of our monthly clean up days. Many hands make light work, so come on out!

The nature center is asking for your help to secure an old lawnmower. If you have a running mower taking up space and willing to part with it, would you consider donating it to the garden? Thank you for considering!
