Gold Coast Arabian Horse Association Gold Coast Arabian Horse Association of California was formed in 1969 by Arabian horse breeders in Santa Cruz and Monterey.

Gold Coast Arabian Horse Association’s goal is to promote the beauty & versatility of the Arabian horse and also to encourage support various all-breed equestrian events. They started with several clinics, lectures, trail rides, a tack auction and a potluck dinner; added an all Arabian horse show, as well as a contest for the Club logo. The winning design is still the Gold Coast Trademark and a source of pride for its members. The Gold Coast Arabian Horse Association’s newsletter, Paisa Ahkbar (“Penny News”) was started in 1970. In 1985 Gold Coast AHA acquired its own charter. Over the years the GCAHA Class A show in August which focuses on the amateur exhibitor has become a favorite, providing a fun weekend of classes, Saturday night BBQ, and a half day All Breed Opportunity show. Open all breed classes have also been added to the regular show schedule. Current activities for the Club include group participation in local parades, club promotion at area equine fairs, hosted trail rides, clinics, and special club outings. GCAHA also has an Achievement Program wherein members can earn points towards rewards while enjoying and having fun with their lovely Arabians. Monthly board meetings and committee meetings are open to members and their guests.

Meet Vivian Voss, candidate for GCAHA Board Member! 🐴

Vivian's love for horses started practically before she could walk — in the saddle by age 3 and showing by 11, and she's never looked back! A proud GCAHA member since 2017, Vivian has truly grown up in this community. She's brought that lifelong passion full circle, now working as a Veterinary Technician at Steinbeck Equine Hospital, caring for the horses she's loved her whole life.

At 20 years old, Vivian is excited about what's ahead — eager to champion the beauty of the Arabian horse and help create fun, memorable experiences for members of all breeds and backgrounds.

We're electing 2 Board Members and 1 Alternate this fall, and we're so proud to have passionate young members like Vivian stepping up to help shape the future of GCAHA. Stay tuned for voting details!

Meet Nichole Hoaglin, candidate for GCAHA Board Member! 🐴

Horses are truly in Nichole's blood. Coming from a long line of horse trainers — with roots tracing back to her grandfather's work with Thoroughbreds — she's always felt most at home surrounded by her equine friends. For the past seven years, Azevedo Ranch has been her happy place, and if you ask her about her favorite moments, she'll tell you it's the quiet ones: snuggling up to a newborn foal.

Nichole is no stranger to GCAHA leadership, having served two terms on the board, most recently as Vice President. Now she's back and ready to roll up her sleeves again! She's accepted the nomination for another term with a clear mission: grow our membership and bring even more fun events to the community.

This fall, we're electing 2 Board Members and 1 Alternate. We're so grateful to have experienced, passionate members like Nichole stepping up to serve. Stay tuned for voting details!

Meet Shawn Nowak, candidate for GCAHA Board Member! 🐴

For Shawn, Arabians aren't just a breed — they're a lifelong passion. Growing up in Southern California, Shawn started showing Arabians at just 10 years old and never looked back. After moving to Northern California, Shawn discovered a whole new way to celebrate the breed through NATRC and endurance riding, finding a wonderful community of Arabian horse friends along the way.

Shawn's last beloved Arabian passed away in 2018, and that bond is still deeply felt. But the love for the breed has never wavered — and the community of people who share that same passion has kept that connection alive and strong. Arabians have been part of Shawn's world for most of their life, and they're committed to keeping it that way.

This fall, we're electing 2 Board Members and 1 Alternate. We're so grateful to have dedicated members like Shawn stepping up to serve this club and our community. Watch for voting details coming soon!

October Schooling Show Cancelled

Due to a recent confirmed case of Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA) in San Benito County, CA, GCAHA has made the difficult decision to cancel our October schooling show.

With horses traveling from multiple locations to attend, we feel this is the safest choice for protecting the health of all participating horses.

Anyone who has already submitted an entry will receive a full refund. Please contact Darlene with any questions or to follow up on your refund.

Did you know? Arabians are the ONLY horse breed with just 17 ribs (most horses have 18)! 🐴 This unique skeletal structure is one of the things that makes them so distinctive. Plus, they have one fewer lumbar vertebra and one fewer caudal vertebra than other breeds. It's all part of what makes the Arabian horse so incredibly special. Have an Arabian? We'd love to meet them at our next event! ✨
