“Jack's Mission - Kids Helping Kids” was started in 2018 by a then 5-year-old boy, Jack Arrington (now 13), who said, "God told me we need to feed hungry kids." That’s a hard statement to argue with, so the mission was born. Since that time, we (Jack and myself, his mom - Jackie Campbell) have fed and clothed literally thousands of people. We focus on families with school-aged children or younger; however, we do help others if our funding allows or if there are special circumstances. We have had food pantries set up at churches and outside of stores in the past, but now everything is set up in a trailer specifically for the mission outside of our home… as well as overtaking our family room and spare bedroom. Lol! We give out food to hundreds of people per year. We also now take in on average several 30-gallon garbage bags of clothing weekly which are then sorted, washed, and distributed to anyone in need. We provide a good amount to kids in foster care, also. In addition to the food and clothing, we donate to animal shelters, homeless shelters, and individuals with emergencies as we are able. We provide several extra services for the surrounding communities yearly, also, such as hosting annual Easter Egg Hunts, holding back-to-school events, and a "secret Santa" program each Christmas.
Our annual Easter Egg Hunt started post-covid when events were again allowed to be held, but many were still not happening! We believed our community needed something, especially where the kids hadn't been able to participate in "normal" things for quite some time. We've continued it every year since because there was so much interest in it! We've had upwards of 100 kids (plus their families) in recent years. They come for the egg hunt itself (eggs are all filled with candy and prizes), lunch (pizza, chips, desserts, and drinks are provided for everyone), and special prizes (toys and gift cards) for all of the children, including teens.
The back-to-school program we host hands out backpacks, lunch boxes, and school supplies to 30-50 children yearly. We also keep clothes specifically to give out as school clothes to families and have even held "yard sales" for the kids to come pick out their own clothing for free. Each year we also try to take one or two children back-to-school shopping to get everything they need for that school year. It amazes me how many have never had that opportunity and are so excited just to be able to pick their own pair of shoes, for example.
Our "Secret Santa" program is our biggest thing we do (aside from the "normal" handing out of food and clothing). We help around 40 kids per year. We typically spend over $6,000 every Christmas. We buy every child in the family two winter outfits, pajamas, a coat or hoodie depending on preference, a multi-pack of warm socks, a multi-pack of underwear, a pair of tennis shoes or boots, two toys (around $20 each), and a Bible. It averages out to around $150 per child. I work hard all year - literally! - to find nice things on clearance so we're able to make it happen for that price. Our Christmas shopping begins immediately after Christmas each year so we can catch the sales on winter clothing, shoes, and toys! (Typically, most everything bought ahead of time IS used at Christmas. I've gotten pretty good over the years at guessing what sizes we'll need, haha!) For MANY of the kids we help at Christmas, what we provide is the only Christmas they have, so I try to make is as special and individualized as possible.
This year has been particularly hard finding funding. So many are struggling right now to even provide for their own families. That's a double-edged sword for us... we have more people needing help (we're already over 40 kids requesting Christmas assistance and it's only September) and people just don't have the money to donate or even contribute to fundraisers.
If you’re interested in helping or you’re in need of help, please message me! You’ll be seeing fundraisers pop up for us soon. We also accept donations via PayPal and cashapp (which I will add in a comment), and/or donations in the form of clothes, toys, and the things like socks and un**es that we always need. We are a registered nonprofit, so I can give receipts so that your contribution is tax deductible. I’ve linked the Facebook business page, but you’re welcome to message me on my regular account. I don’t always get notifications for the other page, even though I am supposed to.
