Black Hills Summit

The Meade, Butte, and Lawrence County 4-H programs invite you to attend the 1st Annual Black Hills Summit, which will be held June 8–10 at the Meade County Fair Barn near Sturgis High School. This event is being organized by Natalie Yates and Aaliyah Lennon, two
high school 4-H members who recognized the need for an event like this in our area. The cost for the entire event is $10 and that will include a noon meal each day.
The summit will include:
• A livestock judging school and contest
• Livestock fitting and showmanship instruction
• An opportunity for youth to bring and work with their own animals
• A horse judging clinic and contest on the third day.

Participants will have the opportunity not only to learn new skills, but also to apply their knowledge in hands-on contests and activities. This event is open to both 4-H and non-4-H youth. Participants must be at least 8 years old by January 1, 2026. A complete schedule is available through the registration link:

Youth Livestock Opportunity for 4-H Youth.
All 4-H beef cattle, dairy cattle, dairy goat, meat goat, sheep, swine, poultry, and rabbit exhibitors must be certified through an approved 4-H Youth Livestock Literacy (YLL) program. Deadline to register for this event is JUNE 4th as lunch will be provided.

One of the most important things for anyone, youth or adult, raising livestock to understand is that they are producing food for consumers and it is their responsibility and obligation to produce safe and wholesome food. The livestock industry depends on consumers’ trust in the safety of their food supply. Food safety is a founding principle of all quality assurance programs, including various youth programs, Beef Quality Assurance (BQA), Pork Quality Assurance (PQA), Sheep Safety and Quality Assurance (SSQA), Dairy Animal Care and Quality Assurance (DACQA), and others.

Kid Kare Clover Connect Babysitting Clinic

We’re excited to share an upcoming Kid Kare Clover Connect Babysitting Clinic opportunity through SDSU Extension 4-H.
This hands-on clinic is open to youth ages 11–18 and will cover:
• Fun, age-appropriate activities for children
• Positive behavior guidance
• Infant and young child care
• Nutrition basics
• Emergency preparedness (weather & 9-1-1 situations)
• First Aid & CPR certification

There are two opportunities available:
• June 2 – Brookings County Outdoor Adventure Center, Brookings
• June 4 – Codington County Extension Complex, Watertown

The cost is $45 per participant and includes all training materials, certification, meals, and a
babysitting activity kit. Space is limited based on CPR training (instructor to student ratio).

The 2026 South Dakota 4-H Performing Arts is now live on the SDSU Extension website. South Dakota 4-H Performing Arts Camp will be held June 7 – 13. The link to register and find more information related to South Dakota 4-H Performing Arts Camp is

South Dakota 4-H Performing Arts is a 7-day performative experience at Northern State University (1200 S Jay St, Aberdeen, SD 57401) for youth who have completed grades 7+ that provides the opportunity to gain skills in musical theater performance. The SD 4-H Performing Arts Camp experience includes:
• A deeper dive into 3 areas of performing on stage: vocal performance, dancing, and acting.
• The opportunity to perform vocal solos, dance solos, and speaking parts.
• Experience learning from experts in the theater arts.
• A better understanding of self along with learning about leadership, teamwork and responsibility.
• Youth interested in participating as Stage Crew are welcome to attend! Stage Crew may attend the full week at full price, or a partial week at a reduced rate.

Everyone who participates in 4-H Performing Arts must be present this entire week.
• Check-in: Sunday, June 7, 2:00-2:30pm. Optional parent meeting at 2:30pm.
• Start time: Sunday, June 7 at 2:30pm. Participants stay onsite the entire camp week.
• Camp Performances: Friday, June 12 at 7:00pm. and Saturday, June 13 at 10am. Performances are open to the public.
• End time: Troupe members may leave after the set is taken down and costumes are checked out after the Saturday morning show, roughly 12:00pm.

Location and transportation
Performing Arts Camp is held at Northern State University. Lodging and meals will be on the University campus. Participants are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from the Northern State University for camp. Participants also are responsible for providing their own transportation, admission, lodging, and meals at the South Dakota State Fair.

Performances at the South Dakota State Fair: September 2 – September 7.
All participants must be present for the duration of the fair. Any conflicts during the fair must be noted at the time of registering for 4-H Performing Arts Camp, may be school or 4-H related only, and will be taken into consideration when assigning solos and acting roles.
• Check-in: Saturday, September 5, 8:00am.
• Rehearsal: Mandatory rehearsal September 5 at 8:00am-1:00pm. Optional practice on Friday, September 4 at 7:00-8:00pm.
• Performances: Saturday, September 5 at 3:00pm and 6:00pm. Sunday, September 6 at 3:30pm and 6:00pm. Monday, September 7 at 10:00am.

Registration
The cost of registration is $450. The registration deadline is May 31. An early registration discount of $25 ends on May 15. Families with more than one camper attending will also receive a $25 discount by selecting the "Family of 2 Youth Participants" ticket at checkout.
If you are in need of financial assistance, we encourage you to apply for the Jayna and Kylee Sanborn Scholarship. 4-H Members may also apply for a $50 scholarship through the South Dakota 4-H Leaders Association. Please contact [email protected]. for more information regarding scholarships.
