Lyon Village Citizens Association

Lyon Village Citizens Association Lyon Village is a community dating back to the early 1900's. The neighborhood is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. See the MAP.

Today Lyon Village is comprised of nearly 800 single family homes, which house some of the DMV's most lovable citizenry. Lyon Village is an historic neighborhood in Arlington founded in 1923 with about 2,500 residents that is known for its tree-lined streets, mix of eclectic old homes (many were built in the 1920s and 1930s), and friendly neighbors. The neighborhood, led by the Lyon Village Citize

ns' Association (LVCA), organizes several annual events at the neighborhood's Community House, including the December Holiday party, the Halloween Parade and Potluck, the 4th of July Parade and Picnic, and the Spaghetti Dinner. Lyon Village is also known for civic activism. Over the years, a legion of community leaders, elected officials, and good ideas have emanated from Lyon Village. Many of these got their start in the LVCA which provides a voice for the residents on various neighborhood and county-wide issues. The neighborhood sits between Lee Highway (North) Wilson Boulevard (South) Veitch Street (East) and Kirkwood Road (West) and is considered to be part of Clarendon, one of Arlington 's fastest-growing restaurant and retail areas. Two playgrounds and a dog park are located within its borders. Lyon Village is just one block from two stations on Metro's Orange line -- the Court House and Clarendon stops. Many residents take the Metro to work and to tourist attractions in Washington, D.C. Several major arterials are just a few blocks from Lyon Village: I-395, George Washington Parkway, and I-66.

Lyon Villagers - lend me your ears!

Another year has passed and the Lyon Village Citizens Association is again looking for some engaged residents who want to help us make a difference for the neighborhood. We have a couple of officer positions opening up this year and are interested in welcoming some new people with new insights to help us take on the events and issues 2019 and 2020 have to offer.

If you're interested please email [email protected] or [email protected] (or both of us) - we would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the needs of the community and how LVCA helps meet those needs.

We're looking forward to meeting some more of you and servicing the rest!

Cheers!

A good time was had by all at the Lyon Village Holiday party this Sunday - thank you to all who came out!

Lots of good food, drinks, crafts, a visitor from the North Pole, and we managed to fill up the police cruiser with presents for kids in Arlington.

Couldn't imagine a better day!

Lee Highway looks a little cleaner today thanks to the Lyon Village clean-up team's efforts this morning!

Lyon Village has adopted Lee Highway between N. Vietch Street and I-66 and periodically picks up trash along both sides of the road.

Many thanks to Derek Huetinck who organized the effort and everyone who came out to help this morning.

If you would like to help in the future, look for announcements about these events in the Bulletin and on the ListServ.

July 4th Parade and Picnic A Great Tradition Continues!

Come be a part of the fun on Wednesday, July 4, for our annual parade and picnic. The parade will begin promptly at 11:00am at the corner of Key Blvd. and Highland Streets. Line up on 17th Street, just off of Highland Street starting at 10:30am. Included in the parade will be antique cars, and police and fire vehicles. If you would like to drive your antique car in the parade, please email John Carten at [email protected]. The parade will travel east on Key Blvd. to Edgewood St., where it will turn left to continue along Edgewood Street to the Lyon Village Park.

Following the parade, we will gather in the park for a picnic.
However this year, we are asking folks to bring their own picnic lunches and beverages. Due to fewer volunteers in recent years, we are modifying the format this year to make it less labor intensive. This does not mean, however, that we will have any less fun; it just requires folks to plan ahead and bring along a bag or basket of goodies to share with their group. As usual, the antique cars and fire trucks will remain after the parade so everyone can get a closer look. To volunteer to help
with the picnic, activities or clean-up, please email Tony Abreu at [email protected].
