Last Friday, family, friends, and mentors gathered to celebrate the 50 graduates of AHC's College & Career Readiness (CCR) program — the 10th cohort in the program's history!

The graduates applied to 97 schools and received 132 acceptances. Together, they have been awarded $2.7 million in scholarships and financial aid — and counting. The class is headed to two- and four-year schools and the military.

Last week, Computer CORE brought their digital literacy training program to Gates of Ballston, equipping 18 residents with new laptops and the skills to use them. Participants learned how to navigate their devices, access the internet, and connect to online tools for job searches, education, and community resources.

Thank you to Computer CORE for helping Affordable Homes & Communities residents build confidence in using digital tools to achieve their personal and professional goals!

WTOP News was on the ground as Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) joined Goodwill of Greater Washington and community partners to break ground on a new development bringing affordable housing to Arlington, Virginia. Attendees looked on as a wrecking claw began tearing down the old Goodwill store on South Glebe Road — making way for a new community, modern retail store, and donation center expected to open in 2028.

“We’re here to bring the whole building to life and create 128 new homes,” Mary Claire Davis, Affordable Homes & Communities Vice President of Real Estate Development, told WTOP.

On Wednesday, 30 volunteers from NeighborWorks America, a strong partner and investor with AHC for nearly three decades, spent the day at AHC as part of their NeighborWorks Weeks celebration!

Volunteers got to work decorating and filling snack bags for kids and gift bags for our College & Career Readiness program graduations. Thank you to these incredible NeighborWorks volunteers!

In case you missed it: Affordable Homes & Communities (AHC) took home the 2026 Best Affordable Housing Project award at HousingAnd’s 35th Annual Meeting & Housing Expo! The award honored AHC's work on Allium Place, an exciting partnership with Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland and Montgomery County, MD Government.

Paul Bernard, AHC President & CEO, shared exactly what makes Allium Place stand out as a groundbreaking blueprint for affordable housing: "Allium Place is a model because it shows that public-private partnership really allows us to share the burden, share the cost, and get more done with less resources."

Last Saturday, Goodwill of Greater Washington and AHC broke ground on an innovative redevelopment in Arlington!

We're working with Goodwill to transform 10 S. Glebe Road into a first-of-its-kind community — 128 affordable homes, onsite childcare, and a modernized Goodwill retail and donation center.

This development will create new opportunities for 128 families, with homes affordable from 30%–60% AMI, including family-sized apartments and supportive housing.

Twenty-five years ago, AHC was accepted into the NeighborWorks network, representing a milestone moment for our organization. Since our partnership began, has invested millions of dollars in our work to support our residents, connected us with transformative training and networking opportunities, and helped us reimagine what it means to build and invest in our communities.

Earlier this month, young AHC residents participated in Fairfax County Government's first-ever Thriving Youth Cup, a community soccer tournament that connects youth with resources and support. The event highlighted safe, fun ways to gather with friends, while bringing awareness to gang prevention.

Coached by AHC Program Assistant Jabez Valencia, who is also an AHC education program alum, our team was one of the youngest on the field and the only group representing Arlington, Virginia.

Kudos to our teens!
