What can a community grow together?

In the most recently completed program year, FOUA's Plot Against Hunger program provided 167,565 servings of fresh produce for Arlington residents experiencing food insecurity.

That impact was powered by:
🌱 More than 21 community gardens
🤝 35 active volunteers
🥕 Locally grown and gleaned produce
đź’š More than $78,000 in community value

But those numbers tell only part of the story.

Every harvest requires people to grow and glean the food, supplies to harvest it, transportation to move it, and coordination to bring volunteers and community partners together. That's where you come in.

Every year, we come celebrate and support Columbia Pike’s small businesses and vibrant community. Save the date for this year’s Columbia Pike Pike Fest! Enjoy local food and drinks, music, family-friendly activities, and pike photos, all designed to showcase and uplift the businesses that make the Pike special.

We’ve partnered with Onelife Crystal Park to bring you stretching classes this Urban Agriculture Month. Trainers from OneLife Fitness’s Crystal City locations will lead a free, fun class on Sat, Oct 17. Spaces are limited and registration for each individual participant is required.

Join FOUA at Park(ing) Day! 🪴 Nourish the Block - Small Spaces, Big Impact: Get growing with us this and where we can show you how to turn tiny spaces into thriving gardens, even with something as simple as a five-gallon bucket. Come see what you can plant in sun or shade, taste some fresh produce, and share your vision for a greener neighborhood.

Join us for “Benefits & Applications of Biosolids for Gardens” Did you know that every time you flush, you participate in one of the world’s greatest recycling programs — one that helps restore soils and grow healthy lawns and gardens? Bloom, a local, affordable compost alternative rich in organic matter and nutrients, boosts soil health and offers improved plant growth, drought resistance, water-holding capacity and more. Bloom also helps DC Water generate renewable energy, decrease its carbon footprint, and save millions of dollars to abate future water rate increases. During the presentation, you’ll learn more about how Bloom is made and its benefits for gardens and lawns. Samples will be available for you to try at home.
