🥬 TONIGHT! WEDNESDAY! August 19th GARDEN TALK! Join us for “Benefits & Applications of Biosolids for Gardens” Did you know that every time you flush, you participate in one of the world’s greatest recycling programs — one that helps restore soils and grow healthy lawns and gardens? Bloom, a local, affordable compost alternative rich in organic matter and nutrients, boosts soil health and offers improved plant growth, drought resistance, water-holding capacity and more. Bloom also helps DC Water generate renewable energy, decrease its carbon footprint, and save millions of dollars to abate future water rate increases. During the presentation, you’ll learn more about how Bloom is made and its benefits for gardens and lawns. Samples will be available for you to try at home.

***We know that Arlington gardeners are interested in learning more about biosolids, and we are looking forward to asking questions and being part of the conversation.***

🍅 August 3 veggie update! Local gardeners and organizations donated 492 pounds of fresh produce at FOUA’s produce bagging program at Rock Spring Congregational Church on Monday 8/3. Everything was delivered to four local food pantries to be distributed directly to those in need. If you have extra fresh produce from your garden, please consider donating. A little can go a long way if everyone who has extra produce can donate. ⭐️ PLUS! ⭐️ Thursday bagging days start this week! Come glean with us! 🥔

Join FOUA at Harvest of Hope Farm in Culpeper, VA on Saturday, 8/1 to glean potatoes. The farm is approximately 75 minutes from Arlington, depending on your starting point. If you’re willing to deliver to food pantries, or you need a ride, please indicate so when you register. (Note: we can’t guarantee carpools, but we’ll try!) Plan to arrive by 8:45 am so we can get rolling by 9 am.

Don’t forget to stop for ice cream on the way home!🍦

🦋🐝 WEDNESDAY! JULY 15th GARDEN TALK! Join us for“CREATING POLLINATOR HABITATS” Master Naturalist Amy Bolton will teach us how to create an inviting outdoor space for pollinators. Learn how to select plants — including trees, shrubs, and perennials — to welcome pollinators through all four seasons, and explore using native plants to support a variety of pollinators, especially insects throughout their life cycle.

Area 2 Farms is a USDA Certified Organic farm built inside the Arlington community it serves, growing fresh produce within miles of the families who eat it.
