Please join us Saturday, October 30, outside the Fox Library from 1 to 2 pm.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 31, 1-2 pm: REMEMBRANCE OF CLIMATE FUTURES/ARLINGTON, outside the Fox Library!
Please join us for a celebration of the achievements of 12 Arlington High School interns who spent the summer working with artist/designer Tom Starr and mentors Rachel Oliveri and Cecily Miller. Together, they created a public art project to raise awareness of the impact of climate change on our community. Shine some light on these wonderful student activists and show that Arlington cares about climate change and the environment!

Note new date: rain is forecast so we are switching to raindate of Sunday, October 31.

The students have created a temporary mural on the walls of the Fox Library with "historic markers" imagining future events – both climate challenges and successful strategies for resiliency.

Sponsored by the Arlington Commission for Arts & Culture (Arts Arlington), Arlington Public Schools Sustainability Initiatives, and the Arlington Department of Planning and Community Development (APCD). Celebration speakers will include Jenny Raitt, Director of the APCD, Tom Starr, and the student interns. More information at: http://artsarlington.org/remembrance-of-climate-futures/. To help us with logistics and COVID-safe arrangements, PLEASE RSVP SO WE HAVE A HEADCOUNT TO: [email protected] Town of Arlington, MA

Do you aim to recycle correctly but find the rules confusing or unclear? Watch this webinar -- including Q&A -- produced by our friends at Zero Waste Arlington -- one of our partners for Michelle Lougee's Artist in Residence project. When we put the wrong items in our bins it "contaminates" the contents and reduces the value of our town's recylable waste. This undermines the whole system, as the waste management companies make less money, towns get charged more, and more stuff goes into landfill. Not all plastic can be recycled despite the small triangle mark -- that only indicates a material code, not whether it is recyclable. Some takeout containers etc. should be put in the trash, despite our wishful thinking. Find out more – boost your "recycling IQ"!
