Our Q2 Socioeconomic Forecasting Interest Group webinar is coming up in one week (June 23). This webinar will elevate and share some policy and technical complexities that arise from the need to forecast negative growth in population, households, or jobs at various spatial scales when the role of an MPO is generally to manage, or accommodate, regional growth.

Association Metropolitan Planning Organizations (AMPO) staff is on-site today monitoring the transportation bill markup as it unfolds. We are closely following the discussions, amendments, and developments impacting metropolitan planning organizations and the broader transportation community.

We appreciate the hard work of lawmakers and committee staff during this important process. AMPO will continue tracking progress in real time and will share updates and key details with our members and partners as soon as possible.

AMPO’s advocacy efforts continue today with additional meetings on Capitol Hill focused on transportation investment, regional planning, and infrastructure policy.

MPOs help ensure transportation decisions reflect local priorities while supporting broader regional and national goals. Collaboration remains essential to building a stronger transportation future for communities across the country.

05/18/2026

2026 begins today, and the theme could not be more timely: Building a Stronger America.

Infrastructure projects connect communities, create opportunity, and strengthen the transportation networks that support daily life. Every investment we make in roads, bridges, transit, and rail is an investment in people — in safer commutes, stronger local economies, and a workforce that thrives.

The Association of Metropolitan Planning Organizations (AMPO) is proud to support this work by empowering MPOs across the country to plan, prioritize, and advance the projects that keep regions moving. From long-range planning to Transportation Improvement Programs, MPOs play a critical role in connecting local priorities to regional needs and turning vision into reality.

Let’s keep building together.

AMPO’s Senior Director of Planning & Research, Caitlin Cook, recently visited the University of Maryland to speak with students about the realities of transportation planning and project delivery.

Students also had the chance to test out AMPO’s Route to Reality board game — navigating the twists and turns of transportation project delivery from concept to construction.

Thanks to the students and faculty for a great discussion and an engaging session!
