Happy Pride Month from the Dental Trade Alliance Foundation! 🌈🦷

This month, we’re proud to celebrate organizations creating more inclusive access to care for LGBTQ+ communities.

Through our partnership with Deserving Dental one of our 2023 grantees, dental care was brought directly to LGBTQ+ individuals staying in shelters, helping provide a safe, supportive space to receive long-awaited treatment. Together, the pilot program delivered 545 procedures to 103 patients in need.

Speaking with Jennifer Geiselhofer, RDH and Executive Director of Deserving Dental, she shared how impactful these projects can be for people hesitant to visit a traditional clinic. Using correct pronouns and a trauma-informed approach helps restore both smiles and dignity.

At the DTA Foundation, we believe everyone deserves access to compassionate oral healthcare, and we’re honored to support programs making that mission a reality every day.

Underserved communities, access to care, and the future of oral health were front and center at the Washington Policy Summit. Throughout the event, dental industry leaders, advocates, and professionals came together to discuss the policies and partnerships needed to improve oral healthcare access across the country.

At the DTA Foundation, we believe these conversations matter. Supporting the future dental workforce and expanding opportunities through education and scholarships are part of building stronger access to care for communities nationwide. 🏛️ To learn more about our mission and impact, check out: https://bit.ly/48VhY05

🦷 Community service is at the core of our scholarship and grant programs.

Remember 2025 scholarship winner Alina Huynh? Her application powerfully reflected the importance of compassionate, community-focused care.

“The concept of dental care still very much remains a privilege for many individuals,” Alina wrote in her application. “Hopefully, through the work of not only me but many of my peers and practicing dentists, we can establish a framework of dental care that is less ridden with barriers, especially for the underserved.”

Reflecting on her work with unhoused individuals seeking care, Alina shared that witnessing the lack of accessible dental services “was a pivotal point in which I realized I wanted to pursue dentistry.” She added that the experience “highlighted the unfulfilled niche regarding the access to dental care for the unhoused.”

Her dedication to serving others continues through her leadership in student-run clinics, school outreach programs, and organizations supporting individuals with special healthcare needs, helping build a future oral health workforce that leads with empathy, service, and advocacy. 🧡✨

Did you know? 🦷

According to the CDC, half of all children ages 6–9 have experienced cavities in their primary or permanent teeth. Access to preventive dental care and oral health education plays a critical role in improving long-term health outcomes for children and families.

At the DTA Foundation, we believe supporting the future of oral healthcare means investing in education, access to care, and the next generation of dental professionals working to create healthier communities for all. 💙

The DTA Foundation is always looking for ways to advance access to oral healthcare for the underserved. In a recent pilot project supported by a $25k grant from the DTA Foundation, our partners at PCHC - Penobscot Community Health Care, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in Maine, developed an innovative solution to a critical workforce challenge.

They developed a program that focuses on recruiting individuals who may not have prior dental or medical experience but are eager to begin a new career. Through a paid, on-the-job training model, these individuals are hired as OJT dental assistants and supported throughout their learning process.

PCHC’s current team of dental assistants, many of whom completed this same training program, play a vital role alongside a dedicated trainer and supervisor in mentoring and guiding participants to success. This structured support allows trainees to build valuable skills and confidently transition into their new roles, creating opportunities that may not have otherwise been accessible.

As a result of this initiative, in 2025, five new dental assistants joined the team, increasing the ratio from 1.59 to 1.93 dental assistants per provider. With more trained staff available, PCHC is able to expand capacity and better serve patients in its community.

Thank you to all our donors, especially those who have come through to support the DTA Foundation in meaningful ways over the past quarter. Thank you for ensuring we can provide more grants like this one, Medicom Group, Microcopy Dental, Centrix, Inc., DENTALEZ, Lanmark360, Pac-Dent, Inc, and Ultradent Products, Inc..
