Hello everyone!
I have just a few updates and reminders for you going into the holiday and year end season.
Softball registration is now open! You can register by clicking on the registration page at www.ArlingtonYouthSports.org. Registration closes January 5th so please get signed up! If you have any questions, please reach out to [email protected]
Mark your calendars for Sunday, January 19th for the AYS Wrestling Tournament at the high school. This is a PACKED day of wrestling for our AYS program. Please come out and support!
AYS Basketball has the Booster Club Tournament on February 8 for 4th-8th grade at the high school. Games begin at 8am. Come out and cheer on our Eagles. Basketball is also looking for some new members to join the Board. You do not need to be a basketball expert to be on the board. Board positions run the business side of things, not the coaching side.
If you are looking to donate for some year end gifting, AYS is a registered 501c3 non-profit and we are always open for donations. Our information can be found on the "Treasurer" tab on our website at www.ArlingtonYouthSports.org or you can email [email protected]
Also, as a yearly reminder, ALL of our sports have the option of a "registration scholarship". We never want money to be the reason an athlete doesn't participate in AYS. We have a very generous donor that has made sure that all our kids have that opportunity. In order to utilize that, when registering for a sport simply click the check box that says you would like to apply for a scholarship. That's it, it's that simple!
Just a reminder, there will not be a December BOD meeting because of Christmas, but the Board of Directors meeting for the month of January is the 27th (4th Monday of the month). This will be our ANNUAL MEETING where we nominate and vote on new BOD members. Please send or bring your nominations. We highly encourage ALL parents, coaches and boards to attend. All meetings after that will be on the 4th Monday of every month at the Village Hall at 7pm. All are welcome.
And lastly, just a little word from me personally, if I may. I'm going to be honest, our BOD meetings are not at all well attended and a lot of us volunteers are aging out as our kids grow. We need to see some new faces participating and volunteering with our individual sports, our committees and our Board of Directors if AYS is going to keep thriving. We have SO many student athletes that AYS supports. Athletics are a HUGE part of learning for our youth, and not just physically. AYS helps build our athletes to show good sportsmanship, be humble, not to be afraid to try new things, be kind, be patient, how to be part of a team, community pride, and SO much more. If you can spare an hour on 1/27, please meet us at the Village Hall building in Arlington at 7pm. Get to know us, ask questions, see if there is a fit for you, because the need is great. It's also a fantastic way to get to know other parents. You do not need to know how to coach or play to be on a board or committee. If you are interested, please reach out. I'm also still looking for someone to take over the website and social media for the AYS main page, and fundraising is still looking for help with writing grants.
Thanks everyone! May your holiday season be bright, cheerful and safe!
GO EAGLES!
