Did you know that New Jersey farmers harvested an estimated 106,000 acres of hay this past summer? The highest acreage since 2018.

This data from the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service provides an important snapshot of New Jersey agriculture, and it wouldn’t be possible without farmers taking the time to respond to NASS surveys. Accurate survey responses help ensure agricultural data reflects what is happening on farms and provides the information needed to inform decisions across the industry. NASDA members arrived in Morocco yesterday to continue this week’s trade mission, meeting with government and industry leaders who have engaged with NASDA through previous visits to both Morocco and the U.S. The delegation also visited the Tanger Med Port and met with importers, where they learned about products currently being imported and explored opportunities for further collaboration. Continued engagement between our two countries builds understanding, strengthens trust and helps break down barriers, helping create new opportunities for agriculture and markets in both Morocco and the U.S.

In honor of International Year of the Woman Farmer, NASDA is continuing to celebrate farmers like Jarmonay P. Nelson of Enjoui Farm. After years of working in professional kitchens, Jarmonay found her way to farming through a desire to better understand where food comes from and create stronger connections between food, health and community. Today, she grows food while teaching youth, adults and people with disabilities how to grow and prepare their own food. Her advice to the next generation? Start small, learn deeply, build relationships and don’t wait for permission. Read more of her story: https://www.nasda.org/jarmonay-p-nelson/
