🌍 What an incredible day at Barcroft Park! On Saturday, September 26, 92 amazing volunteers joined EcoAction Arlington for the International Coastal Cleanup—and together, we removed 70 bags of trash from our local waterways! 💪

Food wrappers topped the list of most common litter, but the most surprising find? An old Telemundo microphone! 🎤

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who rolled up their sleeves to protect our environment and keep our community clean. Your dedication makes a real difference for our water, wildlife, and neighbors.

We are sad to share the news that EcoAction Arlington Board Member Jim Lyon passed away this weekend after battling cancer. Jim joined our board several years ago and was a consistent force of positivity and wisdom for helping our organization achieve its goals. In particular, Jim's vast experience in the realm of advocacy was beneficial to our community. Among his accomplishments, he was one of the primary people who helped launch the Restore Northern Virginia Forest Initiative. Jim's presence and self-effacing humor made him instantly likeable to most people who worked with him and met him. You always were happy when he joined a meeting because you knew he was a calming and stabilizing force. His cheerful and optimistic spirit in many ways was his superpower, and only enhanced a profound dedication for serving others and helping protect the natural world. We will miss him. Our thoughts are with Betsey and his family.

It's that time of year - the squirrels are busy gathering the nuts as they drop from the trees. There are enough to share. Collect - label- and drop of at the Virginia Department of Forestry sites to help grow our forests.

*Plunk!* Did you hear that? 🌰👂 Acorns, walnuts and chestnuts are now falling, and we need your help collecting them so we can plant more trees. 🌳 ⚠️ Please note: We have adjusted the drop-off sites this year, removing some DOF offices and adding some partner locations. See the drop-off site list and map using the link in the comments.

Participating is fun and easy:
🛍️ Collect in a paper (not plastic) bag or cardboard box, separating by species.
✍️ Label with the date, species and location. Unsure of the species? Add a few leaves from the parent tree.
📍Drop off at a listed location (find one near you using the link in the comments) by Oct. 11, and we'll get them to our nursery to plant.
