Greenwater Foundation

Greenwater Foundation We help ocean scientists get the vessels and ocean science assets they need, anywhere they need them. Efforts include:

1. Greenwater Foundation is:

1.

Greenwater Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to Humanitarian and Marine Conservation projects. On the humanitarian side, Greenwater has established a base of operations in Kyiv, Ukraine to store and distribute vital water quality testing kits and construction equipment to our partners in the Ukrainian scientific, educational, and humanitarian communities. Over the past y

ear, the Foundation has sent numerous individuals over to Ukraine and is now looking to expand its mission and, most importantly, its impact! Feel free to review our various missions in more detail below and make a donation at https://greenwaterfoundation.org/

Ukraine Safe Water & Rebuilding Solutions
To provide support to the Ukrainian people, Greenwater Foundation is supplying water quality testing and treatment kits and vital construction equipment throughout Ukraine. Helping established Ukrainian water quality groups and experts build a war-time network to field test water sources, leveraging the already robust network of churches and community groups presently supplying truckloads of humanitarian aid as well as procuring sufficient quantities of field test kits to sustain comprehensive testing.

2. Providing the field test kits, a GIS program to track water sources, a vessel and personnel to test river water and larger bodies of water; coordinating efforts; and identifying sources of funding.

3. Sourcing and distributing much-needed construction equipment to our local partners to aid in reconstruction efforts in some of the country's hardest-hit regions. Conservation
Projects address critical marine conservation issues such as climate change, ocean plastics pollution and biological collapses by taking an active role in marine science research (and other research and exploration) at sea. Arranging vessels and other scientific assets for projects in Panama (leatherback turtle conservation), Papua New Guinea (exploration of meteor in ocean depths) and Fiji (research and conservation center development).

2. Conducting research vessel activities, including: hydrographic surveying, environmental sensing (including water sampling and hydrographic sounding of the seabed), scientific diving and unmanned underwater vehicle research, and
fisheries research. New York Harbor School Education Program
Greenwater Foundation works with the inner city public school on Governor’s Island focusing on marine and maritime education as an advisor for the school. Program expansion goals:

1. identify opportunities for underserved communities to intern on vessels and help arrange internships for individuals that are members of those communities.

2. Base a vessel on Governor's Island for students to use for projects such as the Billion Oyster Project to rehabilitate beds in NY harbor.

We believe the future of ocean stewardship begins with opportunity. Greenwater Foundation works closely with the New York Harbor School, an inner city public school on Governors Island, to support hands on marine and maritime education.

Our focus is simple. Create real pathways for students, especially those from underserved communities, to gain experience on the water. This includes helping identify internship opportunities aboard working vessels and supporting plans to place a community based vessel that students can use for projects such as the Billion Oyster Project.

Investing in young people means investing in the future health of our waterways. We are proud to help open these doors.

In conflict zones and crisis areas, Greenwater Foundation and GMSO Research Vessels help bring essential tools and support to the people who need them most. This includes deploying marine assets, providing water testing and purification tools, and offering logistical expertise in real time.

In Ukraine, this work helped deliver water purification resources to displaced communities where clean water access had been severely disrupted. Safe water is fundamental in any emergency.

🚒 R/V Cosmo’s First Ocean Voyage 😍

R/V Cosmo has officially returned to the water following extensive mechanical and systems upgrades and a successful launch. After completing her initial ocean run, all major systems performed smoothlyβ€”an important milestone as she begins her next chapter of work at sea as part of the GMSO fleet.

πŸ“ Where to next: Myrtle Beach, SC β†’ Key West, FL
From there, Cosmo will transit to Panama, where she is expected to begin her next phase of operations supporting locally based marine research organizations, with discussions underway involving the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute.

More to come as Cosmo continues her journey and gets to work at sea. 🌊

🌊 VesselConnect Is Live and Growing! We have launched VesselConnect, our growing database of vessels available to support environmental, exploration, and humanitarian missions around the world.

This platform helps connect mission-ready vessels with organizations that need on-water access for important work β€” and it’s expanding every week.

If your vessel can support environmental monitoring, mapping, exploration, conservation programs, humanitarian operations, or similar mission-driven work, we’d love to include it.

🌊 R/V Cosmo Update: Getting Closer Every Day! The team has been working nonstop on the R/V Cosmo, a 2013 Bruce Roberts 52 generously donated to the Greenwater Foundation.

We are excited to share that she is getting very close to launch. This has been a major effort across the entire team and the finish line is finally in sight.

Hull painting is nearly complete and the name and logo painting have begun. Each step brings more of her character to life and moves us closer to seeing her underway for the first time.

Once launched, the R/V Cosmo will begin her journey south to Panama, where she will support regional programs focused on climate change mitigation, ocean plastics solutions, and marine biodiversity preservation. This region has an incredible need for accessible, mission ready vessels, and we are proud to help meet it.

More updates to come as we continue toward launch. Stay tuned.

🌊 Looking Ahead: The Important Conversations on Ocean Access and Collaboration

Earlier this fall, members of the Greenwater Foundation team joined Plastic Odyssey’s Ocean Awakens event during Climate Week NYC. It was one of many global conversations centered on the future of our ocean. With the world now turning its attention to the UN Climate Change Conference in BelΓ©m, the momentum around ocean focused action continues to build.

For us at GWF, these gatherings reinforce something we see across all of our work. Real solutions only happen when people and organizations have the access they need to operate on the water.

As global discussions highlight coastal resilience, pollution, and community led initiatives, access remains one of the biggest barriers. This is the barrier that GWF is working to solve through tools such as VesselConnect and through our work with , expanding global availability of mission ready vessels for research, exploration, and humanitarian efforts.

We are grateful for the conversation started at Ocean Awakens and for the continued dialogue taking place now at COP30. We are even more focused on the road ahead. Our work will remain centered on building partnerships, expanding access, and supporting the people who are driving meaningful work on the water.

🌊 Global Coastal Mapping Update from the Greenwater Foundation

Our worldwide coastal hotspot mapping initiative continues to advance, with new progress now available. This effort helps identify regions where increased access, resources, and support can make the greatest difference for coastal communities and those working on the water.

Working with partners .marine this mapping helps highlight the regions where added support, access, and resources can create the most meaningful impact.
