This was my first forum , meeting neighbors and chatting. Good food and good conversations about Vermont topics.
I was honored to be part of a group of people willing and able to step up to make some changes.
Land , infrastructure, farming, rural Vermont vs downtown Vermont needs.
Health and healthcare

I was honored to carry one of my descendants name in the Bennington Battle day parade. My Dad years before the internet was in its infancy compared to today he paid a firm to do the research.
I try to imagine the times, the men signing up, the trip from Townshend Vt to Bennington by horse and foot. The people who supported those militia men. They faced British sympathizers, the best trained army the world had know at the time. They faced all the elements our region has to offer. They left their homes, wives, children.
I hope my neighbors would consider this when you have the right to your opinion at the voting polls. They choose to follow the dream of freedom that freedom is now our reality. To me it seems like every legislative session puts more regulations on that freedom and I’m running to fight against it.
Your vote matters
Look well to your ballot.

I was out at the Dorset transfer station today to chat with people who had interest to pull over. Got to chew on some dust, however there is something about chatting on a dirt road.
I listen to about 5 people in the
1 1/2hr time I was able to spend. One expressed leaving VT for healthcare costs/affordability for 2 small business owners.

Another expressed how his adult children have moved back to VT and living with then to save for a home. Listening both are in professional services.
What is affordable housing? A single wife mobile home for young people just starting out? People need opportunities, people need to upskill for the next market.
Another chatted about the party machines R’s and D’s. Listen to speculations base on election observations.
Another chatted about schools, taxes/test results/ and student outcomes.
I would certainly appreciate finding the answers to Vermonters challenges.

Stopping in at the town office for early voting for primaries, tax bills were ready to send so they gave me mine. 2 things to chat about here:

1 I have heard discussion on taxing second homes at a higher rate or an additional tax.
I don’t believe this is a good idea for these reasons:

A lot of self-employed people service these homes and could cause loss of work. ( maintenance people, landscapers, lawn care, house cleaners, and other such middle class income earners.

This may cause a sell off with high prices that working class people generally could not purchase.

This may cause more of a lull in sales tax and hurt the tourism industry causing further harm.

I’m not an economist however I’m not anywhere near convinced this is a positive move. I totally agree we need more revenue, we need to cut spending in ways that make sense, and we need to grow VTs base.
