The Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) Child Development Center, Arlington has been made possible through a partnership with the Department of War to assist with the extensive child care waitlist in the area. The ASYMCA Child Development Center serves military families that are registered at militarychildcare.com. The Armed Services YMCA enhances the lives of military members and their families in spirit, mind, and body through programs relevant to the unique challenges of military life. Our focus is to provide needed programs and services for single or married junior enlisted personnel and their family members. The Armed Services YMCA empowers military families, no matter who they are or where they’re from, by ensuring access to resources, relationships, and opportunities for all to grow and thrive.

🐛🦋🐞 Learning Came to Life at Our CDC! 🔍🪲

We love when our families bring their talents and expertise into the classroom! One of our amazing parents, who is a biology teacher, recently visited and brought along a fascinating bug collection to share with the children.

Our young learners had the opportunity to get an up-close look at different insects while learning about their characteristics, habitats, and the important roles they play in our world. The children were full of questions, curiosity, and excitement as they explored and discovered together!

Experiences like this help introduce early science concepts while encouraging children to observe, ask questions, make connections, and develop a love of learning. 🔬🌎

💪 Little Muscles, BIG Development! 🌟

Did you know that every time a child stacks a block, turns a page, climbs, jumps, or picks up a crayon, they are building important skills for the future?

At our Armed Services YMCA Child Development Centers, children have opportunities throughout the day to strengthen both fine and gross motor skills through purposeful play and developmentally appropriate activities.

✋ Fine motor skills use the smaller muscles in the hands and fingers. Activities like drawing, completing puzzles, manipulating small objects, turning pages, and building with blocks help children develop the coordination needed for future skills such as writing, dressing, and feeding themselves.

🏃 Gross motor skills use the larger muscles of the body. Running, jumping, climbing, balancing, dancing, and active outdoor play help children build strength, coordination, balance, and confidence.

When children use these muscles through play, they aren't just moving—they're building independence, confidence, coordination, and skills that support their overall development and learning.

At the Armed Services YMCA Child Development Centers, learning happens through meaningful, hands-on experiences that keep children engaged, curious, and excited to explore!

Through the Early Learning Matters (ELM) curriculum, our teachers provide developmentally appropriate learning experiences designed to meet children where they are while supporting their continued growth. From infants exploring their environment through their senses to preschoolers building, creating, problem-solving, and working together, every activity has a purpose. 🧩📚🎨

Developmentally appropriate practice means recognizing that children learn best when experiences are matched to their age, individual abilities, interests, and developmental needs. Our teachers intentionally guide learning while giving children opportunities to make choices, explore ideas, practice new skills, and learn through play.
