We are pleased to announce that ANSI/AMCA Standard 280, Test Methods for Wind Resistance and Impact Resistance for Fans and Ventilators, was officially published on February 23, 2026.

Current wind-resiliency test standards for fans and ventilators were originally developed for windows and doors and do not accurately reflect the structural demands of high-wind events. Their inconsistent application has led to variability in testing procedures and unclear pass/fail determinations.

ANSI/AMCA 280 was developed specifically for fans and ventilators to address these challenges. The standard incorporates defined large missile impact locations along with lateral and uplift load tests that better simulate real-world conditions. The result is a more consistent and relevant methodology that supports clearer compliance pathways, including for manufacturers pursuing Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA) listings.

ANSI/AMCA 208: Calculation of the Fan Energy Index (FEI)

This standard defines the calculation method for the Fan Energy Index (FEI)—a performance-based energy efficiency metric that accounts for the combined performance of the fan, motor, and drive.

FEI provides fan specifiers and designers with a consistent tool for evaluating and selecting energy-efficient fan systems. It also serves as a basis for regulatory bodies to establish minimum energy efficiency requirements for fans.

ANSI/AMCA 207: Fan System Efficiency and Fan System Input Power Calculation.

This standard defines a method for estimating the input power and overall efficiency of an extended fan system. Instead of relying on direct testing, the standard uses a calculation-based approach. This allows for consistent, repeatable, and comparable evaluation of fan system energy performance across different designs.
