A new restaurant to our 17th Annual Chili Cook Off is Scratchboard Kitchen, a perfect example of the independent businesses that make downtown Arlington Heights such a special place.

Owned by Danielle Kuhn, Scratchboard Kitchen was created around a simple but meaningful philosophy: quality food made from scratch, using fresh, seasonal ingredients whenever possible.

From its popular brunch offerings and house-made pastries to lunch, dinner, craft beverages and seasonal specialties, Scratchboard provides a dining experience that feels both sophisticated and welcoming.

Scratchboard Kitchen has also become an important part of the Arlington Heights business community, earning recognition including the Arlington Heights Chamber of Commerce Emerging Business of the Year.

Here is a bit of a warm-up for our 3rd Annual Holiday House Decorating Contest in December (more about that in November).

Our neighbors do a great job on Halloween and we wanted to highlight a few of them. The only prizes we have for this one are recognition for a great job making Arlington Heights look a lot more fun for October! Awesome work to all the homeowners who did their houses up right!

There are a couple that REALLY stand out. The 1504 N. Highland right on the corner of Thomas and Highland is one of the best as always, and their house is usually a top award winner in December. Their neighborhood also has some great houses.

120 E. Berkley in the Berkley Square subdivision is also a showstopper for a completely different style. Highland is spooky and fairly serious. Berkley pretty much sets the record for the most inflatables tastefully displayed in one yard!

On Saturday, October 24, join our Club at an event we look forward to every year. The Village of Arlington Heights Public Works hosts the Community Open House from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Arlington Heights Public Works Facility, 222 N. Ridge Ave.

Our Lions will be providing FREE hot dogs and have a number of activities for the kids (Bubble Station, Alien Invasion target game).

FREE Kona Ice will be provided between 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. thanks to AH Public Works.

We can't wait to see everyone!

I Smell Bacon BBQ & Pub first joined us in 2025, and they return again this year to battle almost every top BBQ restaurant in the NW suburbs.

Located in Hoffman Estates, I Smell Bacon BBQ brings authentic, slow-smoked barbecue and a strong sense of community to the Northwest suburbs. Owned by Mark Mueller, a retired Hoffman Estates Police Lieutenant, the restaurant grew out of Mark’s longtime passion for grilling and smoking meats.

From tender brisket and pulled pork to ribs, smoked chicken and homemade sides, I Smell Bacon takes pride in preparing its food fresh and doing barbecue the right way—slow and with plenty of passion. The restaurant has also become an active part of the local business community and was recognized as the Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s 2024 New Business of the Year.
